When I try to customise my edge background it say "this is managed by your organisation"

Since the rtecent update I am getting this in my laptop now:

"Some of these setting are managed by your organisation" - for heavens sake I am an INDIVIDUAL

Hi, as you may know - as it's been often explained over the years- anything set whether by group policy (but you have Home not Pro) or in the registry with an effect equivalent to or the same as a group policy setting- is identified by MS as 'managed by your organisation'.

This is confusing and inappropriate for individual owners, but that's how it is- terminology from its use conceived in the business world with an IT dept.

If you didn't set these policies yourself in the registry, then a likely cause is some 3rd party tweak tool or 'optimiser' of some kind.

Third-Party Software/Security Suites: Antivirus software, browser extensions, or "optimizer" tools can modify Edge policies to restrict browsing or enhance security.

I suggest that's what you should consider first rather than trying to manually remove them- as whatever applied them coudl do so again. If it has GUI options, then it would be easier to remove them using that program.

I see nothing of the sort you mention on my Win 11 PC, so do not believe it was a Windows or Edge update that caused this.

As for identifying the policies, you might find using Policy Plus (free) helpful- a 3rd party group policy editor with a useful filter and find capability.

Check edge://policy/ should show the policies. I have none.



You can either use the registry to remove the policies or try the reset function.

In Edge go to settings (three dots) and on the left select Reset settings. Edge will reset the startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. In addition, this action will disable all your extensions and clear the browsing data. However, your favorites, history, and passwords will not be deleted.
