A small business sent me an important message that took 22 HOURS to arrive in my gMail.
It was sent around 11am, and arrived the next morning. WHY?

It was a short message with one PDF attachment (5 pages, 20K bytes),
The PDF was created by scanning 3 originals, one of which was partly handwritten

There were five addressees: To: me (gmail); cc: four others on various servers
One of these, also on gmail, was I believe not delayed (tho I'm not certain of this)

On arrival I looked at the Message Original in gmail

It showed this summary - 80,000 seconds and a DMARC FAIL flag

1765461991355.webp

So I analysed the header text with Google's tool.
The tool reported it was happy with DMARC and showed 7 stages of processing as below

Can anyone tell what on earth was going on?
The sender's system is a small business system with MS Exchange client + Office & CAD software

I hope I've posted in the right forum here.
I'd really like to give the sender some help - we've known each other for many years

Thanks in advance

Email delays often stem from sender or recipient server filtering, spam checks, or network congestion. Verify your email client's sync settings and check spam or quarantine folders. Ask the sender to confirm their outgoing server status and attachment size limits.

Are you using Gmail client from Outlook or website as one can play slow down try both to see if its email client software problem also check your internet speed.

Your attempt at redacting your email address & the sender's email address has failed.
You used a translucent marker so the details can still be read.
I suggest you delete the original diagram and replace it with this version.
[done]

Thanks @Try3
I hadn't realised. I reckon virtually everyone here is friendly, but I think I've used your image to do it properly now
It was my 3rd Try that was successful ;-) (true actually)

@FreeBooter
Thank you for replying

I use gMail in a browser.
I doubt that mode can ever extend delivery time to an Inbox in the cloud.

Reading the 2nd image log, steps #2 & #3 were FROM Something.outlook.com TO SomethingElse.outlook.com
so I don't think these log steps actually execute on Google

Step #4 is from OUTBound.Outlook.com TO [google] at mx.google.com (duration 16 minutes for a 20Kbyte email)

I believe steps #0 to #3 executed at an MS Exchange node located either at the sending client;
or on Microsoft's Outlook.com, or, possibly both.

It was interesting that I was the only To: addressee,
and that one of the CC: addressees is also on gMail and I hear he received his copy before me (I will check)

It seems quite possible and logical if the broad process is something like this
Get next email from Client
Loop around its CC and BCC list (if any)
Loop around its TO list - there will always be one recipient to send, and he would get it LAST
Loop for next client email
This model might account for two helpings of 11 hours for the two Google recipients

- tho my real question is "WHY 11 hours?"
and WHERE is that 11 hours running?

I've noticed the same thing, delay's from Gmail. I use office 2021 Home & Business. I discovered the other day when I switched to Excel for some entry updates to a spreadsheet and switched back to mail, I suddenly got 4 new emails that were several hours old.

@TheVisitor
The rogue one this is all about displayed the Delivery time in gMail, NOT the time Sent 22 hours earlier.
I didn't register the delay until I looked at the headers.

Note that I'm using gMail on a desktop browser, like any other webmail really;
there could be other interpretations of "using gMail"

In GMail, you can trace for any message what happened with it on its way to you.
This Gmail site explains it: Trace an email with its full header

I tried that with a message I received from Truspilot.
After opening the original, I copied the header to the clipboard and pasted it into the messageheader field here.
This was the resulting trace path with the delays:
