Is there a way to get a notice in your taskbar when you have a new e mail instead of opening your email program ,by the way I have ThunderBird.Thanks Jerry

ThunderBird needs to be running at background for it to send notifications, maybe i'm wrong.

If you use Gmail, you can go to the Web Store on Chrome or Edge and install the extension called "Checker Plus for Gmail". . That's what I use. I constantly have a browser window open so it works out great.

Notification activated in preferences.

Add your mail client to the task bar start it up and leave it minmized to the task bar. Choose what you want to happen when an email arrives.

Thanks for all your help I finally went to my preferences>then to incoming Mails and checked show an alert ,use system notification and now problem solved
