This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the offer to translate videos on supported sites in Microsoft Edge for your account or all users in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Microsoft Edge is the AI-powered browser. A smarter way to browse. As the only browser built and optimized for Windows, it’s AI-powered tools are designed to help you make the most of your time online. Whether you’re searching, shopping or gaming, AI-powered tools and a security-first approach help you stay productive, save money, and get things done your way.
The Offer to translate videos on supported sites feature in Edge enables you to translate the audio and subtitles of videos on supported sites. The translated subtitles and audio are AI generated and may be erroneous. User discretion is advised.
The first time you translate a video to a new language, you'll be prompted to give your consent for a one-time language install. With your approval, Edge will install the translation model for that language directly on your device, ensuring all processing happens locally. This is a one-time process, and you can continue browsing while the models are being installed.
Currently, audio sources in Spanish and Korean can be translated to English, and audio in English can be translated to Spanish, Hindi, and Russian. Microsoft plans to support additional languages in the future.
Currently, real-time video translation works on specific websites - including YouTube. Microsoft plans to expand compatibility and offer more options for users in the future.
The translation is done completely on your device, meaning that no data from the video leaves your machine. This means that no segment of the video or audio content ever exits the machine or is processed in the cloud.
Your device must have at least 12 GB of RAM and at least 4 core CPU in order for real-time video translation to function in Microsoft Edge
Currently, enterprise users cannot access this feature. Microsoft is actively working on bringing it to enterprise users.
