This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the "Rewrite with Copilot" feature in Microsoft Edge for your account or all users in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

When you have the Rewrite with Copilot feature turned on in Microsoft Edge, you'll get help writing on the web with AI that allows you to generate ideas for writing, elaborate, re-write, change tone, format and more.
  • How do I access and use Rewrite?
When you’re writing in the Edge browser, simply use your cursor highlight a passage that you want to try rewording, and you’ll see the Rewrite menu appear for you to click. When you click Rewrite, Copilot will generate a first draft to suggest rewording. From there, you can select from tones, lengths, and formats to try on different wording, clicking Rewrite to regenerate your draft each time. When you arrive at wording that you like, just click Replace to have Copilot insert the new wording directly into your draft.

Rewrite is only available in the Microsoft Edge browser.
  • What can I adjust with Rewrite?
Rewrite lets you adjust the tone of your writing (for example, make it more Professional or Enthusiastic), length (such as making it longer or shorter), and format. You can try out all these adjustments in the Rewrite menu, so you can get the right wording before replacing your highlighted text.
  • Why is Rewrite not showing up when I highlight?
To use Rewrite, make sure you’re signed into Microsoft Edge. The Rewrite menu shows up when you highlight text that you’re currently writing within the browser, such as a social media post or an email. It won’t show up for already written content, such as a website or an article.

Rewrite will not appear if the phrase you’ve highlighted is not long enough to suggest rewording, such as a couple words. In this case, try highlighting a longer passage.
  • Who can use Rewrite?
Rewrite is currently available for Windows users who are signed in with a Microsoft account or EntraID. It is not available for enterprise users at this time.
