Solved Enbling PTT in BIOS doesn't make my laptop compatible with windows 11

I have a Dell Inspiron 13 5368 i7 6500u and it doesn't have a TPM. It says that for some people PTT has worked as a TPM. When i enabled it, it doesn't work. it still says it isn't compatible with windows 11. How can I fix this? Replies are appreciated.

Processor isn't supported so it will always fail.

Are other criteria like GPT, UEFI, availability of Secure Boot there in your system ?
You can download an ISO and try as a second installation (of course, you need a valid license, any win 7 or 8 license will do)
I have installed Win 11 even though my processor i7700k is not on the approved list.

With the new suggestion that 11 won't be available through Windows Update for "incompatible" machines, but will be installable from an ISO download, it may not matter. (Assuming that you are capable of following a tutorial on how to do that. It's not difficult.)

So all the incompatible computers get a free upgrade anyway, I got to admit its good policy, keeps people using windows.

Not really.. incompatible hardware will not get the update through the normal update process users will have to perform an install/update to 11 via an ISO and then if they do that they will not get any updates for security etc. While you can install 11 I would think it's not advisable on unsupported hardware,., again, YMMV

If the machine is incompatible wouldn't a new ISO release with the latest updates also fail, even on a clean install? Something doesn't sound right here since that trick would effectively have Microsoft admitting there really isn't any compatibility issues.

Forgive me I'm of the rails, but when you upgrade from a let's say win 7 to win 10 with the update tool it usually tells you if you will have issues but if you install straight from ISO it won't stop you but it might not boot or you might have issues finding drivers etc..

I've installed so many that I don't even take notice.

I'm starting to see the "installable from an ISO download" in multiple places. If it's untrue, it's getting to be a popular lie.

I rationalize it as follows: everyone with "compatible" hardware can be upgraded (downgraded?) through Windows Update. It may require BIOS updates whose primary purpose is to turn on all of the features needed for compatibility. People with "incompatible" hardware but who regard a PC as akin to a refrigerator will have to stay with 10. People with "incompatible" hardware, but who have the ability and the will to download 11 and install it, will be permitted to do so. They will receive no tech support from MS. (Unlike now, where we receive no support a few months after out first contact with MS support. I don't know how long that is now. If memory serves, it was 90 days.)

It has been compared to the end of the free Windows 10 upgrade. MS never really stopped permitting free upgrades, but it took a little knowledge (or dumb luck) to get one after the official end of the program.

In short, it wouldn't be unusual for MS to misinform us. The truth may be nicer than the lie.

Good post. Two points though

1) With all the uproar, confusion, and wishy washy information coming from Microsoft, there's going to be some who will fill the "information gap" with whatever people need to hear.... especially if it garners clicks.

2) Microsoft is certainly benefitting from two sides of the (mis)information channel since it allows them to stay mum while at the same time giving the impression the rumors are true... by staying mum.

I guess no one will really know until the OS is RTM to the public at large. Until then...

I believe the "Direct Support" from Microsoft only applies to OS copies bought from them directly and 90 days would be within what I would expect.

The majority of software support for Microsoft OS is in reality provided by the OEM hardware suppliers and would usually apply for a year, so normal for consumer goods. other support periods are available depending on the seller - Including Online support

My latest desktop has three years Return to base support for the hardware and remote software support for life of the OS, [one example of proper hardware support was when I decided to increase my RAM on the system and they arranged for the delivery driver to collect the old RAM so I only lost use of the system for less than 30 Minutes.]

Microsoft indirect support has varied over previous versions of operating Systems but is generally five years full, (including feature updates), support followed by a further five years of Extended Support, (security and other specialist bug correction only), this includes the Microsoft Online support, (which is why you're reading this on a non Microsoft source

)

I am not sure if it relates but it seems if you run windows update to installer insiders and your PC fails because its set to Legacy boot, even after you swap to UEFI boot, the updater will still say you aren't compatible.
Unlinking from insiders and relinking again magically makes the PC able to installer insiders.

So something odd going on there... needs to be ironed out.

@barman58, that's some great support! I don't see that myself since I've been building systems for many years. However, I do have volume licensing with software assurance included so software upgrades are part of the deal.

I would bet there's another issue. I know I set my PC to UEFI boot and the update works just fine.
