no longer necessary to convert to wim for mounting. Can plonk the dism folder on the root and open cmd prompt on it

W7's WinPE Setup can't handle ESD format, so you have to use boot.wim from 8.1 and later.

This thread is about mounting .esd files which is now doable

Oh I see what you are getting at. I don't use setup.exe. I used that .esd for the mounting demo because it is the only .esd file I have lying around
