My fault, I was in a rush just took the pic of the active SSD, forgot taking one of MB.
The board has both slots for the same.
The space, size connectors are for this.
This probably is the only type of NvMe2 SSD that fits in both, which he tried.

OK... one more time...

According to that video... the smart move is to take the 2230 that's IN the laptop, OUT, and move it to slot #2, which ONLY takes a 2230.
Then you can buy a cheaper 2280 for the slot #1. SSD details start at 4:35-ish

The slot that is in use NOW... will fit a 2230 OR a 2280 SSD.
The spare slot will ONLY fit a 2230 SSD.
The SSD in the laptop now, IS a 2230 SSD (according to the video)
So.. you need to move the SSD that is IN the laptop, to the spare slot.

THEN, you can get any normal 2280 SSD for the "stock" slot. :)

So... you take the 2230, Win 11 SSD out of the left slot, and put it in the right slot.
Then, you can put a 2280 SSD in the left slot.

Even if the right can hold a 2030-2080 type SSD would need to take it to the tech guy to first check if it fits.

Than delete all W11 and MS Office, reinstall on that. Hypothetically IF it connects to Evo plus to make it C and this 2030 as Data D.

OR to get another Evo 2030, if the right one for some reason doesn't hold the normal Evo... Which am getting for around $100/-

Been a confusing, last 8 hrs.

1. Yes. I clearly said, as did the guy in the video, that the Win 11 SSD is in the left slot.
2. To physically move the SSD, doesn't require the deleting or re-installing of anything.
3. There really aren't any "other" 2230 SSDs, but the one I linked at DELL.

Yes, this is true. I have a WD SN850 2TB NVMe PCIe Gen 4 in my latest build. It hits around 7,000MB/s on reads and 5,300MB/sec on writes. That is my primary OS and app drive. I also have a Sandisk Ultra 3D 2TB Sata 2.5" SSD that runs around 530MB/sec. Clearly my NVMe is way faster, almost 14x faster. But my game loading and app starting performance is nearly identical between the two drives.

I would focus mostly on capacity and then cost when buying an SSD. Then, I would look at Max IOP's and endurance. The throughput maximums aren't the primary factor that I use to decide which SSD to buy. I think most people focus way too much on the speed.

I've been very happy with the Western Digital SN line as well. My son has 2 x 1TB WD SN750's, PCIe Gen 3's. I have a 2TB WD SN850, PCIe Gen 4. My wife has a 1TB SN750, PCIe Gen 3 (even though her box can take a PCIe Gen 4, I got a great deal on the Gen 3 and she will never know the difference).

For SSD, I've bought Samsung/WD for my high performance stuff. I've got a couple of Sandisk SATA SSD's as secondary drives I have a 1TB PCIe Gen 3 Corsair in a 10Gbps external USB enclosure, I've got an old Intel kicking around (80GB X25-M2), and some PNY drives that I use for temp drives for testing OS and system setups.

#2: He could have physically switched positions from left to right. Which he said, would need a little change in BIOS setting.

My query is still the same, if the right can hold 2030-2080 get a Evo for data?

Or forget and keep it running as it is?

Which apple is shinier, is it the red apple or the green apple? Really this is what this is boiling down to here. It not really going to amount to any noticable difference either way. I'd just leave the OS and such running on the original drive as is, add this new drive as a secondary data drive and call it a day.

You have your entire life to install W11 on the new stick.
You can also just clone the old to the new, with Macrium, if the new stick is faster and better, and worth the effort.

I agree with your thoughts. Just take it once again to tech guy, reopen again see if Evo fits in slot 1 and keep it as Data.

There is nothing wrong with the stock system performance. Keep the stock m20 6.0 512 as W11 active SSD.

Both. My laptop only has one socket, so I have no other choice but to use it for both. The only reason why I went for the 2TB 980 Pro instead of the 2TB 970 Evo was because the former was only 229 Euros at the time when I placed my order so it was a no brainer. I don't play games, but some of the stuff that I like to do is to experiment. For some of that, I use Primo Ramdisk or PrimoCache (sometimes I use both) from Romex Software. I didn't really need to upgrade my laptop to 16GB RAM, but then I finally realized, you only live once...

Ya for some reason I could not image W10 to the new 980 Pro on the Z170, never had an issue like that before. I tried a few times and it kept failing, I even put my Macrium stick in to fix the boot record, still no go. So I cloned it and it worked on the 1st try. Maybe because Samsung hasn`t made a driver for the 980. The 970 Pro imaged just fine.
And like you, I never even tried to clone a drive before. Funny thing is, I`m back to using the 860 Pro because it runs so much cooler.
I`m gonna remove the plastic cover from the motherboard and add a heatsink to the 980 Pro.
