If you're gonna get an NVMe SSD, I would get a Samsung.
Most others are not on the same level as a Samsung.

All SSDs I buy are Samsung, and all hard drives are Western Digital Blacks.

According to that video... the smart move is to take the 2230 that's IN the laptop, OUT, and move it to slot #2, which ONLY takes a 2230.
Then you can buy a cheaper 2280 for the slot #1. SSD details start at 4:35-ish

I snagged a 2TB 980 Pro on Cyber Monday. Where I live, that day the price gap between the 2TB 970 Evo and it was small enough that I simply couldn't resist. At PCIe 3.0 ×4 speed it does not run hot in my laptop that's in my specs. The only way that I can get the Elpis to reach above 60 degrees Celsius is by running a benchmark that runs for longer than the equivalent of any real-world scenerio under normal, every day circumstances. With the benchmark in the screenshot below, the Elpis stayed under 60 for the entire left column (i.e. the read speed results) plus more than half of the total time it took to finish the right column (i.e. the write speed results). This was with all the other CrystalDiskMark settings (i.e. the ones that aren't shown in the screenshot...) at their defaults and just clicking on the 'All' button when the Elpis was idle at 28 and the Intel i5-1135G7 was idle at 34. Degrees Celsius.

RAM is already 16 gigs.
Any NvMe M.2 won't work on the additional slot. Only 2030 size. On the main any from 2030 - 2080.

Maybe change the stock 512 GB to Evo Plus too.... would that be wise or leave it as it is?

It's on page 24 in the service manual (link below). The M.2 sockets 1 & 2 on your laptop's motherboard both are M Key. It means that they can support only M.2 NVMe, not M.2 SATA. (M.2 socket B Key can support only M.2 SATA, M.2 socket M+B Key can support both types, M.2 socket E Key is for WiFi cards.) The 2230 refers to the size of the M.2 SSD's PCB (22mm×30mm).

It looks like M.2 Slot 1 supports 2280, but the Slot 2 does only support 2230.

Depending on the configuration ordered, your computer may support a 2230 solid-state drive, or a 2280 solid-state drive in M.2 slot one.

Me neither. In the Samsung range the EVO Pro uses 2-bit MLC, the EVO uses 3-bit MLC (TLC) and the QVO 4-bit MLC (QLC).

Endurance is directly related to the number of bits stored in each cell, and is much the same for all manufacturers. TLC typically has half the TBW endurance of MLC, and QLC has half that of TLC.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. They are both as shown in the attachment. Can hold upto 1/2 TB. The stock has a speed of 6 GB/s. But a 12 for gamers is available too.

It cannot hold the standard stick Evo. They have decreased sizes of most components to fit in the new models...

I have the option to either install another similar or go for the faster 12 GB one.

As per brands I can get a Samsung one too.

The MB cannot hold the Evo.
