After updating to 22h2 file explorer crashes and if I try to move a file inbetween windows, the block icon stays there? See photo below.

If it crashes I must restart explorer.exe through task manager else there is no way to use the computer.

Could the fact I have low storage on windows drive be causing this?

Upon opening Games (D:) drive, explorer instantly crashes whereas with anything on the C:/ it is if you do a task

Opening D:
(at this point it completely froze and I could not take a screenshot, so it is a picture of the monitor instead)

Not responding ????

I really need help with this. I cannot use the computer right now since explorer is vital for me.. Thanks!

The free space on the boot/system/Windows drive could be an issue, I try to keep at least 20% free and get the red bar at 10% free. Windows likes to have some 'wiggle room' when working. I'm not getting any issue on my 1TB drive split as C: 150GB and D: 780GB but am now looking to see if I can reinstall some things on the D: Data partition.

Only option to remove this is to delete windows.old. I don’t want to however since if I do need to rollback it will be no option

There is a time limit on doing the rollback, I always wait a couple of weeks after a Version Upgrade then delete it. Disk Cleanup may also help, right-click the drive/partition icon in File Explorer then click Properties to find it.

Done disk cleanup. Thanks. No change. Happens when I go to either drive in this pc. Only option atm might be to cleanly install win 10 (my preferred os) but that proposes the issue of having to install my two 150+ gb games, even though they would be kept on the hhd. If you can tell me a way that could be solved it would be great.

essentially, steam does this thing where if you have games on a different drive, you can resync them, but these tw/o games from the Microsoft store are also on d drive and I need to sync

sorry to bring this old thread back but it looks like Microsoft eventually fixed most of the file explorer crashes starting with either with the September 2023 or October 2023 cumulative updates for Windows 11 22H2.
