Solved [Win11] Explorer.exe keeps crashing after 22H2 update

My explorer.exe keeps crashing after I did the 22H2 update on my laptop.
Acer Swift SF314-56-5435

I'm currently using a demo version of total commander to access my files because explorer has become unusable.

What can I do to fix it?

Welcome to Eleven Forum. :-)



First... remove the demo version of Total Commander, and see if the problem goes away.

There are many "other" File Explorer tools out there.

I had to install an alternative version to File Explorer because it keeps crashing. It's unrelated to Total Commander. I just installed Total Commander so I can still access my files. So to be clear before I installed Total Commander file explorer was crashing. So it is not related. File explorer started crashing after I did the 22H2 update..

With these kinds of Windows problems... the easiest fastest way to fix things, is to do an In-Place Upgrade.

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)

Get the Windows 11 ISO image and save it to your desktop...

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.


The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs, drivers and data will be intact.



Or..... you can spend 3-4 days fighting with Windows till you find what caused the problem. :-)
