Hi everyone,

I am getting this pop-up when Windows starts.

File System Error.webp

I have tried -

chkdsk /f /r (on both my disks)
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
Windows Memory Diagnostic

It still shows up. Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

After doing all that, with out fixing the issue, I would do an In-Place upgrade.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Hi, noting you have 2 identical disks- are these configured as RAID or how?

I have tried -

chkdsk /f /r (on both my disks)
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
Windows Memory Diagnostic

- but you've not specified the outcome.

Do you mean...
- you ran them and one or more failed?
or
- you ran them and they passed or fixed something, but you still have the same problem?

Try Crystal Diskinfo (free) and check its report on both disks. Portable version available. Simply launch it and look.

Note that in this instance of the same error number an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps progs, accounts and data was not possible:

Hi, noting you have 2 identical disks- are these configured as RAID or how?

I don't have two identical disks. I have a 256GB NVME SSD and an 2.5" HDD (4TB).

you ran them and they passed or fixed something, but you still have the same problem?

I mean this. I'm not sure if chkdsk fixed anything, but the others all ran successfully.

The computer has been having many BSODs.

That is strange. I can remember one or two going back months. Could they be something else?

I don't have two identical disks. I have a 256GB NVME SSD and an 2.5" HDD (4TB).

Really? Your specs say

NVMe Samsung SSD 970 x 2

And thank you for your reply.

Those specs are for my desktop machine; I'm on my laptop. They are also very out of date.

EDIT - Now updated

Posting about a different PC to that in your specs is bound to leave people guessing, now isn't it?

I rolled back my Windows 11 install to a backup about a month old. Everything seems to be working fine. If I have the same problem again, I will reply to this thread.

Thanks for the help!

Well, in the end, it came back. I asked Claude what to do, and it suggested uninstalling any shell-altering apps I had installed. So, I uninstalled Start 11, and it's gone away, it seems for good now. Thanks for all the help!

Good. If Start 11 is causing issues- try Open Shell instead. Recommended by many (free).
