Hi, away from Windows ..

I bought my wife a new phone, Pixel 10a, but when she installed FB Messenger app & logged in, she's now not receiving all messages, the messages showing when first logged is from 18+ months ago.
She did have to put in a pin code when logging into the new phone.

Anyone with ideas on how to fix this?

Not sure if this is causing the issue, on her old phone that the back up was sitting at 65% I've managed to get it working again but it's very slow

Did you make sure the pin you put in was the correct pin? With the new way FB Messenger does things now is on any new device you must put the correct pin in to show all your messages or it doesn't work.

Steps to Reset and Reenter Messenger PIN:

  1. Open Messenger Settings: Tap the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top left corner, then tap the Settings (gear) icon.
  2. Navigate to Privacy: Select Privacy & safety, then choose End-to-end encrypted chats.
  3. Access Storage: Tap on Message storage (or Secure storage).
  4. Reset PIN: Tap the Reset PIN option.
  5. Create New PIN: Follow the on-screen prompts to create a new 6-digit PIN.
Important Considerations:

  • Device Requirement: You can only reset the PIN if you have access to the specific device where the PIN was originally set or where secure storage is currently enabled.
  • Data Loss Warning: If the Reset PIN option is not visible or you cannot access the settings, you may need to select Delete and turn off secure storage. This action will permanently delete your end-to-end encrypted chat history stored on that device.
  • Cross-Device Access: If you reset the PIN on one device (e.g., mobile), you may need to enter the new PIN on other devices (e.g., desktop) to restore access to your chat history.
  • Alternative Method: Some users report success using the Facebook Lite app or the Messenger website (messenger.com) if the standard app interface is malfunctioning or hiding the reset option.
