I've posted an attachment in the hopes that you can see what my issue is?
As you can see, the "Messenger" page is in front, blocking the view of other posts behind it.
Try as I may, I can't get that messenger page to close so I can see what's behind it. I'm kinda new with FB so I'm sure I'm missing the obvious.
Any suggestions?

Hit escape or click the messenger icon again.

It changes when I hit the messenger icon again but it's still blocking what's behind it. Escape doesn't help.

Refresh the page and see if it closes messenger.
As Rollback said, if you click on the messenger icon to open messenger notification, you should be able to click on the icon again to close the notifications.
Having said that, Facebook on a browser is buggy, very buggy I believe this is by design because they wan’t you to use their app.
You can get the Facebook app for Windows in the Microsoft Store.

You use the same details to log in to the APP and just won't visit the browser version again.

Well, I've downloaded the MS Apps version but for now, it seems to be acting the same way? I'm not sure if this "fix" worked but I'll let you know in a day or 2.

Hi HowdyDo, Dave.

When you posted this, you were using Facebook in a browser. I have Facebook open in Edge, in Firefox on my phone, iPad, Laptop and the App, all at the same time. You need not stop using any of them.
It doesn’t matter how many versions or browsers you use Facebook in, even all at the same time.

When you click on the voice bubble with the lighting bolt (messages) it should open messages, when you click it again, it should close messages:

When the message box opens, you should be seing the whole box, with chats written at the top. I don’t see that in your screenshot.

This is what mine looks like when I click on the voice bubble (messages)

When using a browser, you can also right click on the voice bubble (messages) and select open in new tab.

If you aren’t able to close the message pop-out when clicking on the messenger bubble a second time, there must be an issue either with your account or your browser. I can’t for the life of me understand why it would also be doing it in the actual Facebook App.

For your browser, I would suggest completely cleaning your cookies and cache with whatever option/method you have in the browser you are using. It’s something you can try, because what you are describing isn’t normal.

I totally agree, this is not normal. This started when I upgraded to Win 11 from 10.
I've tried all of what is mentioned above with no positive results. I've even installed a program called "Messenger" that's in my programs list. Still nothing.

I don’t know how it could have any affect, but if you are running 3rd party antivirus software, maybe try disabling it briefly and trying again.
Otherwise, I’d suggest a browser plugin might be affecting Facebook but you said it was also doing it in the app which is weird. Try the antivirus thing, reboot or restart the Facebook app/browser

The messenger doesn't close when I click anywhere on someone else's page.

I've discovered that if I reboot my PC, facebook returns to normal until I click on Message, then it won't close again. Weird huh?

All my friends live and breathe FB. They complain to me all the time about how screwed up FB gets for them. They panic and call me, but since I'm probably the only old woman in town who doesn't do the FB thing, I always have ignorance as an excuse for not getting involved. I tell them, leave it alone an it will eventually straighten itself out and as far as I know it usually does. It's a really buggy site and has a history of site problems.

I might very well stop using it. It's just a gossip site anyway.

Yeah, I have never done the FB thing either, but I do like the Winders 11 forum. :thumbsup:
