failing hdd?

on a second hdd that i use for data storage i ran sfc scannow which found file errors but could not correct some of them.
I made backups of all the files and fully reformatted the drive (not quick format).
before restoring the files i ran sfc scannow again and it still found some file errors that it could not correct.
whats going on? i was of the opinion that the reformat would give a totally clean drive
any ideas?

sfc /scannow isn't for fixing drive problems. If it finds errors they're Windows files errors. What concrete symptoms do you have, or what concrete problem?

you can run check disk on that drive.

The SFC tutorial tells you what to do in this situation.

I assume there is a particular reason why you are still on Version 23H2.

Thank you JLA, i didnt know it was for windows errors only.
Try3: I am still on 23H2 because I cannot get rid of the annoying (to me) circular user picture on the log on screen on 24H2, or even 25H2.
Anyways, I ran chkdsk as advised by XxXxX and no problems found! Thank you Steve

You can check the drive easily with Crystal Disk Info... Portable Version



It will look something like this...



If it says "Good" at top right, it's... GOOD.
