Fast startup causing restart on shutdown

Hi chaps, so after my first post on the forum where I was trying to reactivate my Windows 11 Pro, I am back with more problems haha.
The issue is that when Fast startup is set, when clicking shutdown button in start, the system tries to shutdown but immediately starts again into login screen. I also checked BIOS and fast startup is enabled. When I disabled this setting, it shuts down just fine, but much slower shutdown and startup. (Well, technically it just switches off display for few seconds and then pops it up again in login screen, with all data and programs still active from last session.) Anyone know how I could bypass the issue with this inability to shut the computer down? I assume I could use cmd shutdown command but that is not very convenient is it?

When using a SSD instead of a HD the use of fast startup may be low.
What are the boot times with fast startup on and off.
And what are the approximate shutdown times with fast startup on and off.

If you have SSD, IMO it's pointless to use Fast Startup. The difference doesn't seem like more than a few seconds, and the multitude of issues I see posted because of Fast Startup seem to suggest that dispensing with it would be a really good idea!

A common cause of the very issue that you are seeing is the power settings for the WiFi or Ethernet adapter. Make sure is set to NOT allow it to wake the system.

I ran into that very issue a few days ago with a Mini PC.

I also killed off my mouse waking the system, it was annoying to bump the desk and have the computer spring back to life.

Hi guys, so I was testing the shutdown cmd command, and it seems it does the same thing unless using shutdown /sg, that was the only one which properly shut down the pc instead of hibernating and starting to login screen again within 5 seconds.

If you need to clear cached states or various quirks with fast startup then use restart. This is more of a correct shutdown/restart. See if that works to cure the issue.

Tried disabling the network adapter waking properties, but with no luck. I think in the end I will just disable fast startup and be okay with it. It is a weird behaviour nonetheless. I dont think I want to time the starts as it won't be that much of a difference. It is more about the principle of something not working rather than speed.

Unless there's some burning desire to wake up three seconds faster, I think that's the smart move. :LOL:
