A while ago there used to be some extensions for IE, FF, Chrome etc. to change active and inactive tabs colors, found one that works for Firefox. It would be great to be able to have something like that for File Explorer because its difficult to see which tab is actually active and file list opened when there are multiple tabs.

As far as I understand it, the active Tab is supposed to be outlined with the Accent colour of your Windows colour settings. However I have actually never taken any notice. There’s no way I could find that allows changing the function/tab colours.
I think dark mode is clearer/different for the active tab.

I must use dark mode because my eyes are sensitive to strong light, can't see well when kit's bright outside without sunglasses. There is just a very, very lighter tint in active tabs but barely discernible. Changing accent colours is not followed in tabs nor makes any difference. I use medium blue accents.

I'm trying to find something since they started with tabs. I'm not using FE for everything but only when it opens from an application, Total Commander for shuffling files around.

I can't help you with file explorer tabs, but here's a theme that's for Chrome or Edge. Aurora Multi-colored tabs. Beautiful theme.I've used it since day 1 with 11. It's even better if you use dark mode but I don't. Screenshot 2025-04-29 115938.webp
