Solved File Explorer Panel Color

Greetings,

I just did a reinstall of one of my Windows 11 partitions. All going well...mostly. I chose a manual color in Personalisation - Liddy Green. Now, File Explorer panels have this kind of sick looking lime green color to them. I should point out that I also have Start11 installed. That would impact the color of the Start Menu and Task Bar, but I don't think it would affect the color of File Explorer.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Graham

I use start 11 as well on the release build of 11 and do not see anything like what you describe. Anything that affects the GUI can cause color issues. Uninstall start 11 and restart. If explorer returns to normal, it would indicate one of start 11 options is the cause, you're not using the latest version of start 11, or you're trying to use start 11 on an insider build.

If uninstalling start 11 doesn't fix it, in personalization choose one of the default windows themes to see if that makes any difference. If you have a problem with colors, it's best to start there in your testing.

Are you running a current graphics driver?

Take a look at page 2 of this thread for ways to put the personal in personalization. File Folder - Colours

Well I tripped over the solution. I first uninstalled Start11. That didn't change anything.

I have a dual boot system, and I logged into my other Windows install (call it 'B') and the panels on Explorer and Settings were generic. I went back to the install with the issue (call it 'A') and looked at Personalisation > colors.

I compared that to the settings on the install that didn't show colored panels - B. The only difference, other than color, was that in B, Transparency effects were turned off. I turned Transparency effects on in B, and got a washed out complimentary color in the Explorer header and Settings window panels - the same as in A.

So, if anyone else sees washed out color in the Explorer and settings windows, check Settings > Personalisation > Colors and check if Transparency effects is turned on. Turn if off and see if the colors go away.

I'd like to thank glasskutter for forcing me to take a closer look.
