I have tried all sorts of online suggestions including the ones above to fix the problem i was having without any success, so i gave up, I was heading out to capture some sunset photos i had to go into the spare room for my camera bag when i noticed the blue power light on my Synology NAS flashing i couldnt figure out why it was flashing so i powered it off. I came back from the shoot and tried the PC again and all is working ok again, i have since turned the NAS back on and all is still ok, so could the issue have been caused by whatever was causing the power light on the NAS to flash? Im lost to be honest.

Did you restart your computer before trying all the things you "found on the internet"? Flatulence in WIndows is a thing.

This also may happen if you have offline files or devices, especially if your connected USB or network devices, which should be shown in Explorer, appear online or memorised from previous session but don't answer in reasonable time. To find the source of problem, disable the offline files (in Sync Center, if any), unselect "Show Network" in Folder options > View > Navigation pane, clear here "Restore previous folder windows at logon". Select "Open File explorer to: Home" on General tab, because the option This PC may require to show the connected devices. Disconnect all your external USB devices and networks besides USB keyboard and mouse and see the result. You should see only the local disks in "Devices and drives" (This PC) but no any device or network. Then connect your devices back one-by-one.
