Hello
I have a recent issue which is that when I create new folders or rename a file, the filename length is limited to 36 characters.

This is not a problem when I am inside an Offce app and using "Save As", where 200 characters is fine.
Only an issue when manipulating files in File Explorer.

I have done some research and can't even find anyone else reporting this problem.

I did try the steps to enable long paths in Win 11, but that didn't help
(I did this How to Enable Win32 Long paths in Windows 11/10? - Technoresult )

I didn't count that many characters but did create a New folder with the name
Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country
and it took it. But oddly I couldn't get it to Rename from that in the left column list but could in the right panel.

Ok so as a regular business user and not a tech guy, here's something I didn't know.

THe 260 limit isn't just filename, is filename + path.

And why saving from an office app circumvents this is a mystery.

So after 30 years on windows machines I am finally deep enough in my file structure that I was burning enough characters in my path or folder names that it's a material constraint on filename. THAT i can work around.

Why enabling filenames beyond 260 did not work is still a mystery.

Yeah, the length of the path can be an issue when folders/subfolders/subsubfolders/subsubsubfolders, etc., are involved. T'was a big issue back in DOS days without the GUI and having to type the full path to get to a file.
