System Find Jack Information for Sound Devices in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to find jack information for input and output sound devices in Windows 11.

Jack information can help you know which audio jack (port) a microphone, headphones, or speakers is connected.

Jack information is useful for helping to distinguish among the jacks that connect to a multichannel speaker configuration, and if say a microphone is plugged into a green XLR jack from a microphone plugged into an orange XLR jack.

Starting with Windows 11 build 26340.9354 (Experimental 26H2) for Insiders, Microsoft updated the input and output audio properties pages in Settings to include jack information for devices that need it.

EXAMPLE: Audio input and output ports (jacks) on the back of a motherboard







1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on System on the left side, and click/tap on Sound on the right side. (see screenshot below)



3 Click/tap on a Output or Input sound device you want to know jack information about. (see screenshot below)


4 Under Advanced settings, click/tap on Jack Information to expand it open. (see screenshots below step 5)

5 You will now see any available jack information for the selected sound device. (see screenshots below)






1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on System on the left side, and click/tap on Sound on the right side. (see screenshot below)



3 Under Advanced, click/tap on All sound devices. (see screenshot below)



4 Under System defaults, select Output or Input in the Show devices for flow on this page drop menu for which sound devices you want to see. (see screenshots below step 5)

5 Click/tap on the sound device you want to know jack information about. (see screenshots below)


6 Under Advanced settings, click/tap on Jack Information to expand it open. (see screenshots below step 5)

7 You will now see any available jack information for the selected sound device. (see screenshots below)

4 Click/tap on the Playback (output) or Recording (input) tab for which sound devices you want to see. (see screenshots below step 5)

5 Select the sound device you want to know jack information about, and click/tap on Properties. (see screenshots below)


6 You will now see any available jack information for the selected sound device. (see screenshots below)
