OS
Windows 11
Symptoms: Constant Blue Screen of Death every 5 minutes. WinDbg and BlueScreenView blame ntoskrnl.exe.
The Real Culprit: Outdated Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI) driver.
  • My specific version: 11.0.0.1157 (Dated 07/07/2015)
The Fix:
  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Find Intel(R) Management Engine Interface under "System devices."
  3. Right-click and select Disable device (or uninstall/update if a newer version is available from your manufacturer).
  4. Restart the computer.

Symptom: BSOD every 5 Minutes - it was an on going issue for months - I completely Re-Imaged my Computer - But this did not work. I keep my computer in SAFE MODE - until I could resolve the problem. Things I tried: Un-Installing every program not currently Needed, Same for APPs. Went to msconfig. Disabling about 70 % of the start up programs. Disabled startup Items. Researched on line to see if any one else had the same issues. Check in with ChatGPT for any solution it may have had. Updated all Drivers that needed to be updated. Finally there was a suggestion to use a Program Called "BlueScreenViewer" by Nirsoft and "WinDBG" by Microsoft. After researching these to apps I keep narrowing down the list. The first thing it pointed to was the NTOSKNL.EXE Driver - but that was a red herring - online research said this driver is a reporting driver not likely to cause a problem. Then when I disabled the Intel IME Driver all the BSOD Stopped. I tried different version of the Driver to no avail. Researched whether or not I needed the driver and the answer was NO. The conflict was between the BIOS and the IME Driver - Information said the Software would still do its job using the Bios but the IME Interface has a bug or issue that causes the Problem.
