Font problem in Notepad

Hi all, this is a silly little problem but I can't figure it out.

I have notepad and my whole system set up so that at night it's Dark, in day it's Light. But in both cases, Notepad has the font as the same color as the light/dark mode! When the background is white, the font is white - when the background is dark the font is dark. Well, you can see the problem 😝

How do I fix the font so it's appropriate/contrasting with the background?

Don't know for a fact but just an idea. Open notepad. Click on gear icon. Try changing the app theme to see what affect it has on it. Since you use light some of the time and dark at others, you may have to change this each time.

  • System 3 is non compliant Dell 9020 i7-4770/24gb ram Win11 PRO 26200.9457
I just tested Notepad's themes and seem to be appropriate, white text on black and black text on white. I use the third choice for System setting. The Font is defaulted to Consolas.

If I change the theme to white, the text I type is in white. If I change the theme to dark, the text I type is black - both unreadable. It's the craziest thing. I just uninstalled the darn app and I'll use WordPad. It was just an old habit to use Notepad I guess!

I use the Classic Notepad for quick notes, Notepad++ for more in-depth stuff.

@Edwin is Class Notepad in the Windows Store under Windows Notepad?

This is so crazy - I download/install that Notepad, and I still have white text on white background and black text on dark background with no way to change it 😡

Perfect, that's all I need for simple text files, thank you - and it works! I had to install it from Settings/System/Optional Features.

Thank you! I don't know what was wrong with the updated Notepad.
