Solved For a friend in need: Cannot activate wifi, wifi option missing after update

Because she is no member of the forums so I explain it this way: after a 24H2 update the wi-fi functionality is totally gone. She has no option to turn it on, the entire button to check for wi-fi networks has disappeared, I checked if the network card was there and the drivers installed, it was.

But this button

is no longer present at her device. So what can she do in laymans terms because her PC-knowledge is zero. (sorry!) Or what shall I say to her? She sounded quite panicked and her internet is totally gone. Some help please!

I'd start by doing a repair of the image and an SFC.

Open an administrative command prompt and type this.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

When that completes, then run this command.

SFC /SCANNOW

Restart the machine and see if the missing network can be accessed.

in 24h2 they removed the ability to add/remove items there. you can only rearrange them and scroll to view the second page. did you/she ensure it is not just on the second page (scroll down)?

Obviously, time to let the company IT fix this if it's maintained by them. I'm surprised if they are maintaining it that she automatically upgraded to 24H2, are they not managing the updates?

Second @gunrunnerjohn. If it's controlled by IT even trying to tamper with controls could be grounds for termination and she may not even have access to an account that can make any changes.

There are GPOs that can disable or even hide a lot of network functionality to lockout users from messing with it.

Hence my recommendation to let the IT folks handle it. I know how locked-down stuff can be for company machines. :giggle:

Did you miss it? If this machine is a company laptop and is locked down by the corporation, contact their IT for a fix! Most of the recommendations you're going to get here will likely fail due to the IT configuration of the machine.
