Meh, it was worth a laugh to read that. Nadella said, let's kill Windows (by adding Co-Pilot and Recall) and shareholders said OK. Then they said, let's force people to only use Windows on new hardware and the shareholders applauded such a brilliant move. Then they said, let's keep copying Linux with the new distro idea so we can keep on selling versions that people will think are better and the shareholders approved. Then they added janky updates to make it worse. Then the domestic end user got online and said:

I'm not impressed.

But wait for it folks, because drama sells and if MS doesn't do something drastic Windows is heading for a crash landing. The kids are waking up to the fact that there are indeed alternatives out there. What with the majority going the way of the tablet and laptops becoming a niche most desktops are going the way of the dinosaur. STEAM took a big chunk of that revenue and made it agreeable to Linux. A lot of people are forfeiting the domestic desktop for a laptop and a NAS and a lot of gamers are learning that Linux isn't so bad after all. Times are a changin' and I haven't even touched on the subject of GOOGLE yet. Windows is starting to get some serious competition while the boomers fade away into the sunset. Apple isn't doing so hot anymore either, but people are still opting for Apple instead of Windows. All of this is adding up.

I'm sure the shareholders are repenting of their wayward exploits but the damage has already been done. They will hit the off switch on their malware and call their little lambs home only to do something equally atrocious in the future. That is the pattern. I once said, "Why doesn't Windows come out with a bare bones version . . .?" I should have considered perhaps it was because someone already did it. So glad I discovered X-LITE. Then the domestic end user got online and said:

I'm impressed.

Installing even "bog standard" (non insider) version of Windows Pro is still a REAL PAIN.
Installing a VM using the latest MCT from Ms -- Why do I need all this extra stuff and all these extra updates to complete the install. Surely the best thing Ms can do with this is update the ISO regularly.

This has got to be B/S on what should be a perfectly bog standard W11 install : Thiose extra steps including downloads o9f all those updates !!!!

Sure when MS is forcing Windows 10 users to upgrade or Buy a New PC, if yours is not capable of Running Windows 11. People still have a right to chose what they use. Linux is great if all you are going to do is use a Web Browser.

For some reason XP got a little bump. 64bit XP was probably my favorite Windows consumer OS.

Try looking at The Entire Image. Stat Counter includes All OS's and it is not a site that's main reason for being is to offer Tweaks to Fix Windows 10, 11 and so forth.

I didn't think an explanation was needed but since you felt compelled to provide one, I thank you.

What are you guys talking about? Mobiles only good for web browsing? I use mine for software development straight from the phone. Mine is a full fledged Linux machine and it is awesome.

What comes to using any major desktop OS, they are all garbage, if one keeps looking for such. But at the same time they can all replace each other. Windows is not Linux, Linux is not Windows, MacOS is not Windows...etc...but in the end they can all replace each other.

Personally I've moved more and more over to the Linux world, because for now it seems the system works better than Windows and I don't have to fight the OS everytime I start it up. I even resized my dual boot partitions, giving more room for Linux to grow with my data and tools.

For the one who says Linux has a lot of huge updates. That is false information. Sure, software gets updates very often, but that does not mean that you have to update straight away nor should. There are certain toolchains that depend on each other and in some cases something may break if you try to stay bleeding edge.

The bottom line here is that A person can use any OS that they choose to, and yes This is a Windows Forum as you mentioned, but there are other Threads that pertain to other things besides Windows. I use Windows 11 on my main PC but I also have a NUC that I run Linux on. I believe in trying to assist users in any way I can. That being said I do not tell users what to use or how to use it. The problem I have is not with Windows, it is with Microsoft. They permit users in The EU or EE to remove EDGE but no where else. Yes I know that MS was sued . Windows would be better if it was only an Operating System and not what it has turned into. MS has created a cottage industry of sites that try to make Windows 11 more Usable such as Winaero, many GITHUB projects such as Winhawk, Chris Titus, WinHance & so on. The help that This forum gives it's members is fantastic and KUDO's to Shawn and John for doing a great job.

If their Windows 10 machine does not meet the standards for Windows 11, they would have to either upgrade their current PC or use some hack to bypass the requirements which would violate MS's EULA. I know that MS has given those another year. But no MS is not forcing anyone to do anything but to abide by their EULA.

Those users with PCs older than 2017 can also keep using Windows 10. I don't recommend it, but it's an option. To quote a famous person....
