It's anno domini 2025, ( wiktionary ) and Microsoft Windows 11 is still unwilling to issue an integrated solution for dual booting desktops and laptops.

Why do I have to update the time zone manually, to set the local time UTC-5 ?
Why do I have to update the time zone with an additional software ?

For me, it's about saving time which can be spent more productively than wasting time on this stupid post.

Mine have always reset automatically twice a year.
No additional software needed when using the settings for the clock and saving them.
An initial install/setup of a new version/computer has the default time settings as Pacific time, that's where Microsoft is located.

Thanks Ben,

It is not just an opinion. It was more of a sigh. Although the questions are there, I agree for the post should be moved to discussions, because I know the answer.

For those without long Windows experience, this was always a Windows issue. In Windows 7, I used Meinberg, which seems to have left the consumer market. I know that there is a lot of other software to correct this, but I am just tired of spending additional time on such a crucial issue.

My question is: What is needed to be done in the firmware, without tinkering with additional software, batch files, etc. To get the right time zone every time I boot into Windows? I have an Asrock Z590 mb which is built for Windows and all firmware is current.

I didn't notice if it was mentioned but since the Operating System reads the BIOS to get information on the resources available and how to run them, maybe there's a setting there that needs changing before the OS knows what it needs. As for history, back when I started work in a computer store and building computers in '94 we had do that on some motherboards.

Mine started in '92 and my first computer with MS-DOS 5 with Windows 3.1 on top of it. Retired two years later and got offered job in a computer store. Windows 95 was when things really started changing.

Go into "Settings", "Privacy", scroll down to "Location" in the left window and make sure that access to location is allowed. Also, you can use settings to turn off "Set time zone automatically" and set it yourself. Third, if you are dual booting Windows and Linux, Linux will set the hardware clock to UTC, which means the next time you boot into Windows, it will show the time as UTC until you change it or until the time service corrects it.
