I just got a new Windows 11 laptop with a high resolution monitor (3840 x 2160) and am working with Publisher 2019. I am trying to change the brightness/contrast of a picture I want to use. When I right click on the image and select Format Picture, the window that I get is so large that the OK button on the bottom is below the taskbar and I can't click on it. I can't move or resize the window. I don't have this problem with Publisher 2013 on my Windows 10 laptop. Can this be remedied without adjusting the screen resolution or changing the scaling (which is not recommended by the Settings app).

I am trying to change the brightness/contrast of a picture I want to use.

Not sure you're going to be able to do that satisfactorily by editing the image directly in Publisher. you'd be better off editing the image separateley before you insert it into Pub.

Irfanview (freeware) image software will let you adjust contrast, lightness, darkness, gamma, etc, etc.

EDIT : In relation to your problem, I suspect something else is amiss. It's not usual for that secondary window to open that large. It can't be maximized/minimised, it doesn;t allow resizing by dragging borders/corners, it just opens according to screen size/settings.

Some older programs have problems when the screen scaling is set to anything other that 100%.
You'll have to try changing the scaling in Settings > System > Display.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

BIngo!! Yep, that does it for me. Set my screen size to ridiculous 175% (native setting is "100% (Recommended)"), parts of the Publisher edit image window well and truly outside the monitor visibility limits.

At the recommended resolution (3840 x 2160) the recommended scaling on my new laptop is 250%. If I set the resolution down to 1920 x 1080, the recommended scaling is 100%. At that scaling setting the Format Picture window is fully displayed but the text size is too small. I bumped it up to 125% which results in something more acceptable, although text is still on the small size for my taste. If I up the scaling to 150%, the text is larger but the icons in the ribbon are too big. I don't understand resolution and scaling but what's the point of having a high resolution monitor if you have to set the resolution way down to use it? I'd hate to think I have to adjust the display settings as I go from one app to another.

If you "bump up" the scaling, everything is scaled up, not just the fonts. You can't have one without the other if you use scaling.

Otherwise, yep, program by program ... some of which won't have any facility to do this.

What's the actual size of the Laptop screen?
Or, are you using an additional external monitor?

Have you used Custom Scaling? That'll bugger things up really bad!
