Hello folks,
every once in a while I'll do some video editing, but I hate Clipchamp and preferred the older Windows Video Editor.
Can anyone suggest a better FREE alternative to Clipchamp? I don't need anything fancy. As long as I can splice, merge, crop videos I'm good.

Nice program. ^^
Screenshots at site are worth a look.

Simple, and doesn't try to call home. :-)

I just want something that can clip videos...
I used all default settings, and UN-checked this box.

Image1.png

The program tries to save everything as .mkv, but you can choose All Files and then just type the file extension as .mp4 or whatever.

/edit

I found out where you choose the default output, file type.
By default, it's set to .mkv

Image1.png

For clipping... if you want to clip out of the middle of a video, you just click on Edit > Set marker A, then use the slider to go to where you want the clip to end, and click Edit > Set marker B... then... Edit > Cut

If you want to include in your clip the very first or very last frame, you need to use one of these buttons down below...

The "slider" wouldn't let me include the very last frame in the clip. I assume the same is true for the very first frame.

NOTE: This program can do a lot more stuff than I would even attempt. But, I always wanted a program than can clip videos, without requiring a lifetime of video editing knowledge. This is the easiest one, I've ever seen.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?

Don't use those frame markers as indicated above to select start (A) and finish (B) of clip - you need to set the start clip point (A) and the finish clip point (B) based on key markers, which are the left and right double headed arrows immediately to the left of the A/B

If you use the frame markers as suggested above, AviDemux will automatically select the next key frame in the video clip, anyway but you won't see where that is until you've completed the saved clip. There could be frames you don't want included in the clip.

@OP - you should never have to buy software for video work, whatever it is. There is just so much freeware out there. In any case, most/much of the payware is simply the open source software that is already available free, with a commercial GUI ... and quite often built-in presets that don't allow you the settings freedom that the original freeware does.

Those (double arrows) are for keyframes. Better for non-re-encoding video editing (encode output as "Copy"). If you want a cut at a specific frame, you should create/edit the video with re-encoding.
