General Question: Can Update Preview (KBnumber) and Update (KBnumber) differ?

Yesterday on W10, we were offered KB5007253 Cumulative Update Preview optional. If things proceed normally, in due course, we'll be offered KB5007253 Cumulative Update. I would like to know whether there can be a disadvantage to taking the Preview; can the same number update, when offered as an Update -- not a Preview -- be different from the Preview version? Does MS maybe fix things in the Preview to create the Final Update, so that Update Preview KB5007253 and Update KB5007253 can be significantly different?

On the 19th of November, on W11, we were offered KB5007262, a Cumulative Update Preview, and yesterday, the 22nd of November, we were offered KB5007262, a Cumulative Update. Those of us who took the Nov 19 version did not uninstall it and replace it with the Nov 22 version, but the question is, is that the right decision?

My primary question is simple: If there are changes, does the number change; conversely if the KB number of the Update is the same, is the Update the same?

If the Preview versions are issued to get feedback and to test them on different configurations, then presumably changes can be made after the Preview is issued and before the final is issued. Does anybody know for sure whether significant changes made to a Preview version result in a changed KB number?

Dan

I suspect it will get a new KB number and minor build number by Patch Tuesday, even if there are no new patches for known issues included. That's because there will be new security fixes included.

You seem to have posted the same link twice, corrected now, thanks.

Yes, they did re-use the same KB number, but this was an Insider Preview release and the notes for .348 say that "This update includes all the improvements previously noted here plus this additional fix..." ('here' being .346). So this is more of a re-release with just the one last minute fix rather than a completely new CU. These things can happen on Insider channels, it's rare to see it on the RTM release channel.

I was led to believe the preview was an early look at an upcoming release and we, who installed it were the testers and then any changes needed were made before the cumulative release
