As the title says, I'm not a fan of the "combine buttons in taskbar". How do I get it to where it doesn't do that?

Copy this:

its impossible to know what will hold true with future updates until they are released.. until then its irrelevant...

I am also do not like these combined buttons,with no flexibility to hide them.

"ALERT" do not do this registry hack/it works, unfortunately it removes the
combined buttons, not just un-combines them and disables the Start Menu

So it’s seeming like the way to go then would be to dig into the old explorer exe and extract and inject the proper code into the new exe. I’ve been thinking also that just using the older exe as a swap job isn’t only a security risk but can also introduce problems to performance and functionality.

Might be not that "complex" for a non-expert user like me.
I installed Windows 11 on my daily PC since the first leaked version.
So far it's running smooth, even without TPM and SecureBoot.
The recipe for this delights:
1. Apply the reghack (I used to replace the explorer.exe earlier)
2. Install StartIsBack++

Then game on!

I don't get it... If you don't like the way 11 looks, why are you running it? I was just as guilty with 10 when I first started using it. Installing third party app to try and make it look like 7 was an exercise in futility and the same I think applies to 11. An Exercise In Futility...

We're facing a coin with double side each time the operating system changes.

In one face, slow but sure, new application updates can't run any longer on older operating system, also new hardware updates and new hardware products. I installed Win10 because I can't find a working GPU driver for Win7.

The other face, new user interface delivered by the new operating system makes many people uncomfortable. I installed StartIsBack on Win 10 because my eyes and my hand uncomfortable with the new Start Menu.

Now it happens again in Win11. As I said, slow but sure, there will be more uncompatible software and hardware later for earlier Windows version, and, in time, there's no longer support for the old operating system. Then why tried to modify? Because I want to be comfortable anytime I use my PC. Do the reghack because I don't want the Taskbar grouped and only show icons, I also want to be free to drag and drop things to be pinned on it. And, of course, I don't like the way new context menu show up, my eyes and my hand muscle too slow to accept those changes. Installed newer StartIsBack++ because of the same earlier reason. And the last, installed SecureUXTheme because I want my Win11 to be skinned to the way I like.

There's no urgency for anyone to do those things. Options, options, and options, and we shared our options here.

You make very valid points. I remember going from 98SE to XP. I installed XP and hated it because I was so used to the 98SE UI! But I installed XP again and stuck with it and it grew to be my fevered OS. Then there was Windows 8! But we don't want to talk about that... Anyway for me! I'm staying with the new UI. I'll get used to it and get to know the in's and out's of 11.
