I'm too old for GIMP or Photoshop. I won't live long enough to get good at either of them. :D

I'll just have to stick with Paintshop Pro 7. It's has just enough bells and whistles to "see me out".

@Ghot I still use Paintshop Pro 7 for basic editing tasks, I think it is unbeatable for cropping and cloning it's my go to app for those 2 actions

I use it for much more than that. It does the same things as GIMP and Photoshop, it's just doesn't do them as quickly or easily.

Yep. Just enough, but not too much. :)

Back in 2014, when it seemed like AMD was gonna go under, I whipped this up on PSP 7...

AMD Gravestone 2.jpg

Or this one, after my 4th or 5th realm down on Diablo II....

And sometimes, I just get silly...

I liked Paintshop Pro.. but now I use Photoshop and I love it. There are so many great tutorials on the Adobe site and on YouTube so learning how to use it is rather easy.

I thinks so but if you don't like that play you can get Affinity Photo and you can just get a perpetual license for 50 or less and it's amazing. EDIT: No.. Paitshop Pro has the same license arrangement and it's only 39.99 at the moment.

I never got into GIMP. Tried it a couple times.
I still use the old Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10. I have it on Win 11 but its only because the OS has been upgraded from Vista to Win 7/8/8.1/10/11.

I tried installing it on my Insider installation but wouldn't install as it tries to install I.E. 6. Couldn't figure a way around the I.E. install.

I agree Jeff, I only have it for .tga files when I am doing my Half-life re-mods, for that it's brilliant but as you said complicated.

It's just odd to me and I never could get a good feel for using it. Is it good,, I guess so but I never felt that way. To me the GIMP interface is a mess and it makes using it complicated. The main argument for using GIMP is.. well it's free and those 'evil' people at Adobe charge to use Photoshop, etc. The key advantage of Adobe products is you don't have to hunt around to find free apps to replace the ones Adobe provides and the ones from Adobe are generally far better.

If spending 11 a month is too much then use GIMP but don't expect to get the same features that Photoshop etc have.

I also have a copy of MDI on disc. There may be the same install issue on Win11 RTM. IE11 has been deprecated and putting iexplore.exe in the Win11 Run box brings up Edge.

I agree Jeff a lot of these sort of programs are complicated and messy, simply because they are free and work with layers. When I was at work we used the full commercial version of photoshop which cost a few thousand $. I wish I had taken it with me when the company closed.
As well as that I worked for 30 years for Kodak and later found out I am related to the Eastman's. They came to the UK trying to track us down but the village priest didn't know our family.

I pay around 11 US a month to use Photoshop ETC.. and I get great results. In addition I have a license for Affinity Photo and I love that one.. the bottom line to me is GIMP is just messy and slow. While it's free it's just not up to par.

I think that what makes GIMP difficult and counter-intuitive for us Windows users is it's genesis. It was designed by and for Unix users. It's interface makes sense if you have a Unix mindset, it just feels 'wrong' at some deeply subconscious level if you have a Windows mindset.

I use it for much more than that. It does the same things as GIMP and Photoshop, it's just doesn't do them as quickly or easily.
@Ghot I am quite lucky, working in that industry for many years I got hold of great commercial editing tools for free, I used to use the commercial photoshop which cost thousands. All the editing I do now I do with psp7 and psp x2 mostly
