Prefer the cpu to have the pins, far easier to fix if bent, pins on the motherboard socket are way to fragile

Number of pins keeps on growing. On the CPU they became too thin and brittle and are easier to get damaged. In MB socket they are better protected.

But it was easier to straighten the pins on the chip than to try and fix the pins on the socket, especially since the pins on the socket are not straight to start with

Asus has developed a reputation for returning questionable repairs. Of course I'm sure they see they're fair share of bad stuff being sent in for warranty work that was obvious damage caused by the owner. With that said before sending in ANY motherboard for repair it is important to take good photos of the motherboard paying attention to Intel sockets regarding bent pins. I've sent in 2 Asus motherboards for repair last year and crossed my fingers at getting warranty replacement. But I took good pics on the motherboards before sending them in.

I just got my Asus ROG X670E Crosshair Hero motherboard back from Asus because when I flipped the switch on the power supply it arced at the 24 pin connector first time powering it up. They didn't say what could have caused it or anything and they don't work weekends so will have to call them Monday. I am not taking the chance and fry a $700 board (and possibly other things) again. I just bought a power supply tester also from Amazon. I just hope I didn't cook anything already. Should know something later in the week.

Also note, that if your power supply came from a name brand manufacturer, such as Dell, HP, Compaq, etc... then it may not have a standard output configuration. If you have a name brand power supply, ditch it and buy a new one from Corsair or the like, don't take any chances.

Don't forget to build it outside the case first and verify all is well, before you put everything into the case.

I really hope you didn't try and run that Intel i5 13600K in an AMD AM5 motherboard. Also the power supply is some no name hunk of junk I wouldn't trust to power a light bulb.

Everyone will probably have a different story about motherboards, but this is mine.

I've built dozens of computers over the years for myself and others. I used to always stick with ASUS motherboards. But many years ago, I had a run of bad ones where some were either dead on arrival or had a very short life.

I switched to GIGABYTE motherboards and have never had a bad one, and they keep going and going, year after year. Many are still running well after 10+ years.

My experience between these two brands is the complete opposite.

My experience has been the opposite. I started out building a lot of systems with Gigabyte boards, but had a lot of failures including one of my own builds.

Then I switched to using the newcomer, ASUS and apart from one AM3 board that lost the fan/cooler mounting 'ears' off the CPU socket, I have not had any failures.

Some of the software from both manufacturers has been pretty horrendous though.

I stayed with Gigabyte MBs for many years for their build quality an robustness. Last one was Ga 990FX UD3 which held FX 8350 at almost 5GHz. it still runs for friend's kids but at reduced frequency 4.2GHz because OC needs constant maintenance. When switching to Ryzen and AM4 socket, Gigabyte dropped the ball specially with BIOS and poor compatibility. MSI and then Asus took over with BIOS development and compatibility which is most important for peek performance, In 2017, for my first Ryzen, R5 1600x, as usual I went with top middle class MB but at this time Gigabyte didn't have anything decent to offer so I chose, MSI I never trusted and Asrock was just a "Baby Asus", So I switched to Asus Prime x370 Pro and for R7 3700x Asus Prime x470 Pro which I'm still using with 5800x which allows for very fine tuning and great performance. Switched to x470 only because 300 series chipsets had bad RAM compatibility because of memory bus architecture. Only problem with this MB is one case fan header died but there's enough left for 3 120mm case fans and two 80mm auxilary fans which kick in just occasinally.
My plans are for second part of this year when AMD is slated to release next gen of Ryzen with AM5 socket. Still looking at Asus MBs but Gigabyte with Aurus and ASrock seem to offer very good deals. By now, I'm most used to Asus BIOS and functions so that's most probably what will decide. My only doubt is between b650 or x670 chipsets as they are now very close with some b650 MBs being better than some X670 while lower priced.

This I can agree on, they all write shite desktop tools and is not only limited to Asus or Gigabyte.

I'm in alignment with @Stigg. And I've been using Gigabyte boards since moving from Intel. Yes, Intel had motherboards. I got my first Gigabyte board (X58A-UD5) in 2010, after inquiring about them > here My last and current one (Z390 Aorus Xtreme) in 2019....



I've never used Asus, cause Gigabyte never gave me a reason to look there. Also had a bad experience with Asus's customer service some years back with a laptop, so they've lost my business forever.

Regarding board software such as App Center (Gigabyte), I've not touched it since the first time I tried it. Didn't like it, and never looked at it again. That was also back in 2010.

Anyway, my next build will also most definitely feature a Gigabyte board

My first build, on an Asus motherboard, many years ago had a voltage error and I sent it back to the third party seller for replacement. Every mobo since has been Asus and I've never had a problem that would make me look elsewhere. I expect anyone who is loyal to a brand, whichever it might be, is so for the same reason.

For years I also used Gigabyte until my current build as ASUS was just cheaper here in Australia at the time (also delivery times).

Also I have luckily never had a dead anything arrive.
