Google and Gmail have gone insane...

Two days ago... I needed a new email account for some reason (I don't even remember now).
So... I foolishly made a Gmail account, and imported my contacts. BIG mistake.

First thing I noticed was my regular email started getting miles of spam emails. Continuous for two days.
This is an email account I've had for 18 years. Already had every bit of spam in the world, sent to the spam filter.
I thought to myself... this is because I just created that Gmail account. So... I decided to just delete the Gmail account.

LOL.. I Googled and found directions for doing so. Not so fast, mister!
As I attempted to delete the Gmail account, I got stuck in a two factor authentication, loop.
Like... 2FA squared, or something.

Twenty minutes, six SMS messages, and eight emails later, Google decided I was trying to hack my own account.
So.... I had to change my password and deal with four more SMS messages and 4 more emails to do that.

Then... back to trying to delete the Gmail account, again.
I finally managed it, I think. Yes, there were more SMS messages and emails.

I really, really, hate Google. I mean I seriously hate Google.

Almost forgot. I still needed another email, so I made a Yahoo one.
It took about 30 seconds, with zero BS, and no spam. :)

I have two yahoo email accounts and two Gmail account. I monitor them regularly and I don't get any spam on any of the accounts. In fact, the Gmail accounts are so quiet that I send test messages, just to see if they still work. I guess you just must be the lucky one.

Before I retired I was the lead Unix admin at my company. Early on (80s) we were using the email service built into the SunOS (sendmail). But that turned out to be pretty buggy, so we shut it off and the company implemented a MS mail system. That worked fine and we didn't have any issues for many years. Then one day, someone in the PC group got into one of the servers and turned on "sendmail". Well, over the years, tons of admin mail had been collecting on all of the servers and workstations. But they had no place to really go. So when "sendmail" got turned on, I received 18,000 emails. Because all this mail went to the MS mail system, it had a bit of a fit. I had a pop3 setup on my daily driver so I just said "get my mail". It took over 8 hours for all that mail to be popped off of the server. We never did find out who turned "sendmail" on.

There was no spam on the Gmail account. But as soon as I created it, and imported my contacts... my "regular" email account started getting over run with spam, and that account never gets spam.

I do that as well (test messages). Created my Gmail account probably 12 or 13 yrs back and I don't think I've ever had any spam either.

I had up unto a month ago loads of Spam suddenly appearing in Gmail, I set up a few filters in Gmail for the worst offenders, blocking domains works, now back to just getting an occasional spam.
I use Thunderbird but set the filters up using the Gmail web interface, if you look in the bin folder all the stuff I filtered skips the spam folder and goes to the bin folder where it gets eradicated after 30 days, or you can do it manually if it bothers.
Got a rarely used AOL account, that gets none since they went over to Yahoo's servers which is odd as when I had a Yahoo Account that was dreadful for spam.

It makes me glad that I have my own mail server. Nevertheless I get all kinds of spam warning me that my account is going to be closed unless I click on something. I'm the only person that can close my account.
