google photos group by faces, I click choose, nothing happens

I am logged into my wife's account on google and I can't do it and neither can she.
When logged into my account, we can do searches by faces.
If we turn on show pets with people, it shows just 6 animal pictures of things we don't recognize.
It does not sow people with pets.
How can this be fixed?
Tried this on 2 different win11 machines with both edge and chrome

what does that mean?

talks about a fix, but seems to do nothing for us. Unless it takes hours to do.

I just reuploaded a picture of my daugther, but, nothing has changed. No facial recognition process is occurring.

Obviously jumping thru hoops to fix something means buggy software is being used, especially for a web app which should just work without a lot of effort. This is not desktop windows with bazillion options.

Making some progress. It seems you can't just upload a face picture to google photos from a windows pc.
I think you have to take a new picture on your linked phone of a person's face. The phone is now this am showing a different screen with blank faces after I did a reset last night on the desktop account. That screen on the phone came up as the first screen when starting google photos on the phone. Will test it later today when wife gets up and going for the day. So it seems to me, any old pics of faces are never going to be searchable unless you take a fresh picture of that face again and upload it using the phone.
