Hasleo Backup Suite

Herein lies my main beef (carrot for vegans?) for most imaging tools as they seem to differ in what they include as a system image backup Some include the MSR, some do not - same with recovery partitions.

Also some differentiate between partitions backups and disk backups and have different image files even.

On a partition backup with most of them, you can either restore all partitions or only one at a time i.e. you could not restore 2 out 4 in one go.

Macrium Reflect images are simple - backup what you want, restore what you want (in a single step). Ok that presumes a bit of upfront knowledge of partitions but that does not take long to learn.

Saving off site is always a good idea -- but I'd suggest if you have a fire or floods - you've got much bigger issues to contend with than worrying about data on a computer !!!. -- I'd suggest a more likely scenario is home gets visited by "Uninvited guests", or your laptop "goes missing" at Airport security etc -- seems those crowded airports in Europe e.g Rome, Gatwick (UK - the absolute pits almost of any airport I've ever been in BTW) , Athens, Milan etc where there's zillions of people in security and people all over the place so laptops can easily be "picked up" by people who just chance their luck.

I reached out to Hasleo yesterday and got a quick response. It is supposed to include the recovery partition in a system image (not just disk image). If it isn't/doesn't, it means there is something wrong with Windows vs. recovery partition. I checked on my wife's laptop and her recover partition was included in a system image/backup. To check...I ran reagentc /disable and deleted the recover partition. I ran a Windows repair by reinstall (which can be more painful...have issues...now) and let it recreate a new recovery partition. I ran Hasleo again and, sure enough, now it is included in the system image/backup.

Hi.

The problem with mine is that I believe an in-place upgrade created another recovery drive that wasn’t there during the original backup.
But I think SIW2 is on the right track, switching from disk mode to partition mode within the restore. I don’t know, I have to look at their findings when I have the chance 🙏

I haven't had Windows make duplicate Recovery partitions in a while...but it isn't uncommon. Run reagentc /info to verify which one is active and which one isn't. You might be able to simply delete the extra one with a partition manager or diskpart...recommendation may still be to run reagentc /disable first just in case...you don't want to lose the recovery wim. After deletion of the extra one...run reagentc /enable. However, you may still have the issue I had if there is something not quite right between Windows and the partition...that Hasleo is identifying and causing it not to include in a system backup. I did do a recovery from a disk backup though and it worked too. I just had OCD I guess, and decided to go through the pain disabling recovery, deleting my only recovery partition, and using a Windows repair by reinstall to recreate it...I could've used the technique on Youtube too, I guess, to manually make a recovery partition and reenable recovery.

I let Hasleo write my backups to a folder ( Hasleo ) on an internal HDD ( Win C is on a SSD ).
When Hasleo has checked the backup , I always get the message " no errors are found " , so seems to be good !
Any idea for a better way ............?? ;-)

btw ; you may assume the backup will be fine , after checking by Hasleo ......?

As with any imaging tool, you cannot be certain until you restore it all is fine.

A good way to check is to create a blank virtual hard drive vhdx file large enough to hold contents of drive backed up plus about 20GB.

Attach vhdx file as a drive and restore image backup to the vhdx file

Then create a native boot entry (dual booting main OS with one in VHDX.

Reboot, select vhdx drive to boot to.

If it all boots fine, you know for sure image backup is fine

You can delete vhdx file and boot entry if you wish.

There are tutorials for the above.

Glad you sorted it. I want to try the Partition Backup method as well on the backup tools page.

2. Improved performance of the disk backup feature
3. Added file filters for disk and file backup
4. Added feature to fix WMI issues
5. Various other minor bug fixes and feature improvements

Notes:
1. The GUI translations have not yet been updated.
2. The low compression level of the V5.0 Beta uses the same ZSTD compression level as the medium compression level of Macrium Reflect. You should change the default compression level in the settings based on your computer's performance, especially if you have previously installed Hasleo Backup Suite. If the CPU is not powerful enough and you choose a very high compression level, it will take longer to back up the same data.

I check MG every morning as part of my morning routine. Check for WU and Store updates and update if any> News > E-mail messages > Make full system and other backups if needed. MG site because i find them most reliable for many years now and also some of first to show updates and new stuff. Thinking about learning about "Winget" seems like good idea. Similar to Linux.
About Hasleo , update is asking to uninstall previous version but I'm afraid all settings will have to be redone. If so, I'll go for beta version, looks promising. I still run MR automatically and Hasleo manually with "One button Incremental backup".

The Hasleo Backup Suite installer prompts to uninstall the previous version. It doesn't uninstall your settings. It only uninstalls the previous program version. I don't particularly like that. It confuses some users. They could improve on that process, in my opinion.

That's good enough for me (for now), improving that would be quite desirable. What about v5.0 beta though, same thing ?
