I note there are paid versions of the cloning app as well as a free version.

Makes me wonder if the backup suite will eventually end up with paid versions (and of free version would be cut down?).

I would think direct user support would only be for premium users (similar to Macrium Reflect)?

I have no evidence to support any of the above - just idle speculation.

I think it’s a fair call.
I have always said that Haslao Backup will probably turn into a subscription when the user base meets their desired numbers.
It’s quite simply todays business model for introducing software, hoping people become dependent and then start a subscription.

I don't understand the "dependence" you refer to above. There are many, many both imaging and file backup options available. I've moved amongst them for years, finding better, faster, more reliable options.

..and in reference to a possible "subscription model" for their software, they've never done it in 13-years of existence... even with their oldest PAID products. I don't s'pect they do it with HBS either... eventually maybe a Lifetime PAID model but not a subscription.

Macrium built up their base of customers with the free version then when they has a mass amount of people using it they discontinued the free version.
I suspect Hasleo will do the same as they took over the free market Macrium previously held.

Not sure that there’s anything to understand, it’s quite simple?
People get used to a software and can depend on it like any other software. It’s nice that you’re happy to swap and change, I don’t like to be screwed around so sticking with something suits me nicely. (y)
I know others don’t either as is obvious whenever a software goes from free to paid or subscription and the war of words breaks out.

You have your opinions, I have mine. Neither of us know. And even if we were in-the-loop… that means jack crap. Companies can change their model on a whim and without notice.

Yeah - my "idle speculation" only referred to a possible paid version, not what the payment model would be, although the industry is generally moving to perennial subscriptions.

It is naive to think that HBS will be 100% free forever, given most of the other "EasyUefi" tools have premium versions.

If we IDLY speculate that some form of premium version would eventually be introduced, the key issue is whether the free version going forward will retain the features of the current free version.

We have seen the way free versions of minitool partition wizard have reduced functionality over time.

Who is to say HBS would not go down a similar path?

As I CLEARLY stated, this is all idle speculation, and we have no idea what the future brings but I do know one thing - costs going up is as inevitable as death, taxes and lying politicians.

I emailed Hasleo and this is their reply.

"Hasleo Backup Suite is currently completely free, but we also need some profit to keep the product developed continuously (We currently support the development of this product through revenues from other products), so there will be a paid version in the future. We will always offer the free version, but we do not guarantee that all features will be available in the free version."

It’s the new business model adopted by all software vendors now, that start out as free. I’ve also mentioned in this thread, and others, that the business model makes sense to me.
I’ve also mentioned that I’d happily pay for Hasleo Backup

Interesting - so my "IDLE SPECULATION" pretty much hit the bullseye💪!

As stated above, there will be a premium version, and the free version may not have all features in the future.

Hasleo Software seem to use the perpetual licence for a 1 off payment model looking at the other offerings.

Now the only question is "When"?

Speculating again, I would guess the (rapid) Delta Restore would be only be available in a premium version?

The only Betas I've ever seen are when a major new feature is being incorporated... last was when they were adding the Macrium X style data compression. It is now in the current release.

They often issue "test" builds when chasing down obscure problems. The most recent of those builds may be found HERE on their Forum. When enough of the obscurities have been dealt with, a new minor release is usually issued documenting those issues.

The test builds mentioned above tend to be accumulative... as they fix issues, each additional test build needed for an issue includes all the fix issues from the previous test builds. They are all "use at your own risk" builds... kinda like the main software itself :rolleyes:
