antspants. ok i have hasleo backup suit installed and when i click it i get an error and i dismiss that and it want to save a file so can i assume that app has already prepped a backup and wants to just save the file to my backup drive? so i went to the downloads and reinstalled it for the just in case it did not install good and it still failed. it seems i should be seeing some kind of menu so that i can pick what i want to do.

Hi, Bob.

When the program starts, you should actually see this following user interface as in this random image I just grabbed (Open to the home or backup page)

Hasleo wont do anything until you direct it to. I will have to research that error.
Sadly in Australia it is late in the night and if I don’t sit with my wife, she’ll take away my computer privileges.

I’ll be back, if someone hasn’t helped you, I shall try.

ok i just told that open box to save that to the d drive it want to save it to the c drive. that makes no sense putting a backup on the same drive. and it just saves a folder. so can i assume if i ever needed to restore my pc and i had a recent backup with hasleo that if i clicked on that folder i would get a restored c drive? it is a bit strange at this point. you see that box above and that part that want to save wants to go to the c drive. there ust be a way to select another drive for that backup if that is a backup. thanks

ok i do not get that even from the fresh install. maybe i told it to at the first install and it has those instruction still saved. i will see if i can completely unistall that app and try again. the file size is 16kb that seems a bit small for a complete 250gb drive size. anyway we will see thanks.

ok i used win11 to uninstall the app and i will reinstall it from the down loaded file and see if i get that menu again thanks

ok i got a new copy an now i'm at the very first page and have a bunch of choices so i'm leaning on picking the backup suite. i will not proceed until i get the go ahead.

ok this is what i got so far. it seems i have 3 partitions on the c drive so i'm leaning on the larger partition to pick on the c drive and clone to the d drive? i picked clone drive and this window popup up. so i will pick the larger partition and see what that does\. so i picked the larger partition and it picked them all but then i get 3 choices clone as mbr sector by sector clone entire disk or keep partition layout. what is the better choice?

ok i ran the program and it took like 3 hours to do a c drive backup thru the usb port onto a ssd nvme drive. that seems to be a long time for 250gb of storage. but it is done. now to see if it works the next time i need it. i will do that about 1 time a month when i do the karans backup on another ssd drive. it may be ok thanks

Hi Bob, I may have misunderstood but from what you have said it looks as if you may have cloned your internal drive to the SSD, rather than creating a backup of your internal on it, which is what I understand you want. If you look down the five options in the left column it appears you chose the fourth - the cloning options - rather than the second, the backup options. If you want to try again then ensure you have a drive connected with oodles of unused space, I'd say at least 30Gb, and select System Backup. That will create a backup of all partitions which are necessary for the backup to be complete and for Windows to run. When the backup panel opens just ensure you set the Destination as the connected drive. Mine completes in about 20 minutes but that depends on how much used space your system has. If you have films/videos on your C drive you may well need to allow for much more than 30Gb and backup will take longer.

no i did pick the 2nd one down and did the backup and i created a folder on my sd drive and copied to that. it may have been slow as it was the first time. maybe next week i will try it again and see if it goes faster. i may be the next times that is run it copies what has changed. karans does that. karans only copies what changed. but karans only does folders and files but not the win folder. that may do it but i figure if i had to do a restore all i really need is the photos doc's and downloads and i can get it all back in an hour. thanks

You can’t just backup the “win folder” Bob. It doesn’t work like that.

Whilst karens serves you well, it is out of date. Still you’re comfortable with it so use it. However, Hasleo can also do file backups when you feel ready to use it. I suggested Hasleo to you because I believe it has the simplest user interface.

I see you have threads everywhere. You’re making it hard.
I see you have a dedicated thread on the TenForum about backups. You need to pick a lane, it doesn’t matter what forum you use, because the backup process is the same for 10 as it is eleven… but it makes it hard having members repeating other members when we could be helping others.

Also, due to learning curves, I’d advise against certain softwares as I know the complications of convoluted interfaces and processes that you may face.
