HELP! External Fanxiang 1TGB SSD Freezing when plugged into Desktop

Yeah, I would be contacting the manufacturer.

Already did Contact Manufactuer via Email on this matter, as nothing left i can do with it

If you still have the original packaging you might stand a chance of having them replace it.

I may have it somewhere around here, i'll have to check, its been since February 21st though since i opened it for my birthday

Does your External Fanxiang 1TB SSD look like this?

If it is, it has a 5 year warranty as shown below ( both pictures culled from Fanxiang website)

Please download the trial version of Hard Disk Sentinel (HDS) Hard Disk Sentinel Trial version - HDD health and temperature monitoring and check its health on both your machines.. If it shows up in HDS, the overview tab will show its health when you select it in the left pane.

Here is a sample screenshot showing the health of my SAMSUNG SSD put inside a ORIO enclosure



NOTE: If your Fanxiang External SSD does not at all show up in Hard Disk Sentinel, it is certain that it is defective. You may then intimate/ write to Fanxiang Tech Support with a screenshot and request warranty replacement. Good luck.

Yes does look like that, with a blue case around it, will check with that program first thing when wake up in morning, about to sleep shortly here

As for warranty, it wouldn't matter whether bought at Amazon/Walmart/BestBuy/Target/newegg or other sellers as long as Fanxiang considers it as a original Fanxiang Disk and not a counterfeit. If asked you may send the photo of the label on the rear side indicating the model No, and serial number.of the disk alongwith the screenshots of Hard Disk Sentinel on both your machines.

Sounds like some cheap (Chinese ?) brand that's probably not very good to be honest...

Fanxiang is indeed a chinese company manufacturing internal SSDs, external SSDs, USB Flash drives, enclosures etc. The company is already providing Technical Support to the OP. The external SSD boasts USB 4 capable of upto 3800MB/s speed. It is by no means cheap. I would not make any hasty conclusion or cast aspersions about the genuineness of the company or OP's Fanxiang external disk.

Fanxiang has been around for a long time. In China it is huge. Like Silicon Power they were known for providing reliable drives at modest prices. Today, all of that has changed. Finding reliable drives at modest prices in the retail market is pretty much a thing of the past. I've had Samsung drives fail on me too, brand new, right out of the box. Admittedly, this is rare but it only goes to show that one can only put so much confidence in a name brand. What matters is whether the company stands behind their product. I suspect Fanxiang will make good on their warranty.

on PC 2 Gaming Laptop only see The 512GB NVMe boot Drive, eventually will get installed an Internal 2nd NVMe for Games, just waiting til i have Real Life Peace and Quiet to concentrate to do the install, as do have Spare Samsung 990 Evo Plus that i think will make into Game NVMe for PC 2

As long as you have the particulars, SN, product #, and proof of purchase you should be good. It may take a while to coordinate. I remember when I had a 4TB Silicon Power SSD fail on me after about a year of use. I had to wait a couple of days to get a response and I had to jump through a number of hoops and hurdles before I was approved for an RMA but they did honour their warranty. You will likely have to pay shipping.

I might even have the original box somewhere around here, opened on my birthday in February, used it sparingly off and on for extra backup purposes, and lighten the load on my older External drives that i own

Plugged in 2 weeks ago and it was starting to have trouble reading files, then writing files

This is first drive i had die on me since back in 2008 when i had a Seagate HDD die on me just after the first month, contacted Seagate, got approved for RMA, of course the rep got my name wrong, got addresss wrong, when it was returning to me, almost went to another County entirely, had to wake up at 7am on delivery day and contact UPS myself and get it re directed to proper address

have been connecting less since this drive died all the other externals to not overly wear them out

After a scary virus situation back in 2005, i got extremely serious on PC backups after that after losing a bunch of data, and alot of time to deal with it all. At the time i had boot sector viruses, trojans, worms, even a local shop couldn't clean it up. Final fix was replacing all the hardware. Case for better cooling, Motherboard, CPU, Ram, Video card, Hard drives, and a new CD for Windows XP at the time

I hope you still have all that older hardware. There is a way to scrub it all with the right software. Sounds to me like you were dealing with a root kit issue in which case the culprit was embedded in your BIOS. There are ways of dealing with that too. Most shops won't deal with root kits because it can risk bricking the BIOS but sometimes it is worth the gamble.

Sadly shop didn't return any of the older hardware after finishing installed the replacement parts

Which consisted of a Gigabyte Motherboard, AMD Sempron Processor, 8GB of Ram, ATI Video card, wasn't the All in Wonder version i had in my not returned parts though.

Previous parts was
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Abit NF7-S motherboard
ATI All in Wonder video card
8GB of Ram i believe i had then
Seagate 320GB boot drive
Maxtor 250GB Secondary Drive i believe was the size, or could've been another 320GB--memory a little foggy on the exact parts
Sound Blaster Audigy with the front 5 1/4 inch ports at the time

Did alot of VHS to DVD captures back then, Webcamming with Online friends, Gaming, til the infection happened when i tested Windows Live OneCare program, of course the infection probably was mostly my own fault

Well, it looks as though you didn't lose much at least. Still, I don't think it was very professional of them not to return your property to you. I always offer my client their defective hardware back to them when I work on their PC. It isn't my property to dispose of. On really old hardware like that I'll offer to clone it onto newer drives for them and even then I return their defective drives. It's a matter of ethics.

Well that wasn't the original shop that originally built the system as i don't drive, and Family member that took me that time was like heres a computer place that says they do hardware support and software--Lets go here.

So i was like i guess, and then they did the work, and was like well hopefully your PC is fine, got it back--then it kept crashing still, and then Windows Live Onecare showed still infections. Took it back there, and finally they said only way to fix this, is replacing all the hardware.

Mind you i never even restored the backed up files then, i junked them all just to be on the safe side as i didn't know what was still infected or not.

They even installed Windows XP 64bit, and i was like why isn't my activation key working. then when i tried to activate over the phone, Microsoft rep was like you'll have to obtain activation key from your supplier.

I just got out my Windows XP Home CD and did a complete clean install

2 Weeks later the place suddenly closed

Yeah, there used to be a lot of dodgy shops like that back in the day. I don't see so many of them these days, but one thing we can always count on for sticking around is scammers. Learning to build and service your own PC really isn't that hard and it's a good way to stay away from shady outfits. Plus you get to know your personal computer inside and out. I truly hope it all pans out for you this time.
