HELP please .. my newly bought SSD M.2 SAMSUNG 990 PRO keeps disconnecting with no reason or faliures

ill consider this .. although it gave me a warning of " ruining warranty etc " thing when i tried to enable it
is that even safe ??
will it really ruin warranty thing ??
and just by reading some of the discriptions .. why would the SSD even go to " idle or sleep " mode when i am playing using it ?
Full power mode will cause the drive to heat up quickly

If you mean change disk mode from RAID to AHCI in bios , no you can not just arbitrarily change it. Doing so results in BSOD. There is a special procedure for if one does not want to use IRST drivers on a working system that is set up with disk mode of RAID.
The O.P. did not say anything about using RAID setup. But thanks for correcting me. My bad. The O.P. may be using RAID mode but have forgotten to mention it. Regards

In the US, the listings tell you. I'm always very careful to buy only things "sold by Amazon" "Ships from Amazon". It may not be the same where you are.
I know Amazon will fully back this sale and gives a 30 day guarantee. After that you have to deal with the manufacturer warranty.
For example these screenshots were taken from 3 different 990 Pro 4gb that I found o Anazon here

Some things will say "Sold by xxxxx" "ships from Amazon" .

View attachment 140935
Others will say "sold by xxxx" "ships from xxxx"

View attachment 140934
In both these 2 cases any problem you have with the sale is between you and the seller.
yeah am doing same thing .. i never buy from a seller in amazon unless its something unavailable elsewhere
i bought mine from amazon sold and bought from amazon UK

I kinda lost a little confidence on Samsung drives after the fiasco with the 1/2 TB 980 Pro drives where the drive life was going down quickly. Took them months to fix(not actually repair) the issue via a firmware update. In your case this could be a drive firmware issue or a motherboard issue with how it integrates with the drive itself. As mentioned about VMD, I assume you have that turned off?

Which Storage Controller are you using? "Standard NVM Express Controller" ?

I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.
Probably related to Intel's VMD (Volume Management Device). I'm not the guru here on Intel's processors, but from what I understand, the M.2 now or have been for a while, connecting directly to the processors. Maybe someway somehow a bottleneck is being created, maybe you might need to install a raid driver. All of this is just a guess, hopefully someone will come along that has experienced your same issue.
No.
Amazon is a marketplace and not all vendors are trustworthy. Did you buy it from a reputable vendor via Amazon or some Chinese vendor via Amazon?
A reputable vendor may offer to send you a replacement.
That's far more likely than the above.

although i can still get into the SSD menus and check the games inside it and game still there but for some reason unable to be read from the SSD
That makes no sense. If you can see the games, you're reading the SSD.

You seem to have done everything regarding your NVMe SSDs but did you update BIOS firmware ? There is an update in May 2025.

Also refer to this article from AOMEI for a solution: NVMe SSD Keeps Disconnecting? 5 Ways to Fix It Now

Hope this helps.
There are 5 things in that linked article above more likely than some of the suggestions posted here....

🔸Loose or improperly seated connections: Even a slightly unseated drive can cause NVMe SSD disconnections.
🔸Thermal throttling or overheating: NVMe drives are fast, and they get hot. Without proper cooling, they can overheat, leading to sudden drops in performance or NVMe SSD suddenly not detected. (very likely)
🔸Driver issues: Outdated or corrupted NVMe controller drivers can interfere with consistent communication between your SSD and system.
🔸Outdated BIOS firmware: Your motherboard firmware may not fully support newer NVMe drives, causing external SSD disconnects randomly issue.
Suggest you check for all. Especially heating. Unfortunately these drives get hot and if not properly cooled can throttle.

BTW, I have 4 Samsung NVMe drives (also an SSD) in my system, including a couple of 4TB drives, none disconnect. None require "Full Performance" mode in Samsung Magician to work.

Samsung Magician.webp

With all that said, where is the OP installing the NVMe drives? On the board or using the ROG Hyper M.2 card holder for their board?

its just this problem that just opened my eyes about brand new page of issues

my 980 PRO is not acting up either...
that is why I suspect issues with the design and/or a firmware bug... of the 990 PRO.

No.

That's far more likely than the above.

That makes no sense. If you can see the games, you're reading the SSD.

There are 5 things in that linked article above more likely than some of the suggestions posted here....

With all that said, where is the OP installing the NVMe drives? On the board or using the ROG Hyper M.2 card holder for their board?

thanks for the reply .. well .. about the Discoonecting .. i didnt mean it Disappears .. it never did
its just " NOT able " to do anything related to the SSD
i can move files from it or to it
i cant play the games in it " i keep getting reading and writig errors in steam "
even if i try the excutable of any game
i cant do anything at all ..
the only invalid solution i saw working is .. clean power turn off .. unplug .. wait 5 minutes .. turn on and pray that it could work randomly for the next 30 minutes of 1 hour best with no issues

and No .. They are directly connected to the motherboard directly .. no Hyper thing attached to the motherboard

here is a screen shot of the temps of both SSDs on idle state " i mean no gaming or doing anything "

I have a 990 Pro, originally as a system drive but now as storage.
I've never had any problems with it. Firmware is up to date.
