Suddenly this past week my home screen icons have a black background, when I start the system they are fine, if I open one it goes black, and if the mouse touches the others they become black. The strange part is that it only happens on my side of our computer, not my wifes side. Tried a few fixes I found on the internet, but they end up coming back. Is there an easy fix or what?

Seems to me, that without mentioning what fixes you already tried, you will get those as well in this forum.

Like this 'fix':
Try resetting the icon cache as described in this tutorial:

I hoped for a simple fix, but most thing suggested are a little beyond my abilities as a senior well aged citizen. Tried option #1 no luck. Does Microsoft have one of those fixes for this problem?

As stated in that thread, if option 1 doesn't work try option 2 or 3. It does not take a lot of skill, just follow the instructions.
If you get stuck, just post back which step you don't understand and we can walk you through it.

By the way, Most people on here, including myself are a well aged Senior citizen.

When you say it happens on your side and not on your wife's side, I'm I right in thinking that your computer is setup with two user accounts? If I'm correct your user account may be corrupted.

Hi @gabbydgar,

It looks it could have a link with dark/light theme of Windows, but the dark background anomaly seems darker than the color theme, and switching between the 2 doesn't seem to resolve this glitch. I only saw this with the yellow folders though.

The only way I managed to set it right is by going in the properties of each folder to set the icon back as default.
Worked for me, but I must admit I would prefer an easier way to set all the glitches at once if there are a lot.
