My laptop boot failed and I am unable to boot from this drive, so I have decided to transfer everything from a old SSD, but I couldn't find the method to do it safely, could someone please suggest me method, I also noticed that I can not install any cloning software because it's the boot error, so I can not boot with the original, drive, please let me know if you need further information.

Just want to make sure this was a typo, or if:

1) your current laptop drive does not boot, but you want it to?

OR

2) your current laptop drive does not boot, so you want to overwrite it with the OS from an old drive?

I don't mind either of them or both, I could try each solution if one doesn't work, thanks.

you can use @cereberus advice to fix boot issues (if fixable) on your current laptop drive. if you want the old one to overwrite the current one, you can boot off of that drive (easiest way is if you have another machine to put it in, but can be done other ways.. let me know), install aomei backupper free, pull your current laptop drive out of the laptop, slave it off with a usb adapter and clone the old drive to the laptop drive via aomei.

Hi @cereberus,
Thanks for your suggestion, I have managed to get the Macrium installed and created the recovery media and boot to that USB stick but could you please explain the method to perform a clean install of Windows 11, when I tried it asks for driver to load, but I have added the IRST driver to the USB stick and it says it's not a signed driver, could you please help me, I am very slow now from other health issues, so forgive my late response.

You can avoid having to install any IRST drivers during a clean install by first changing disk mode to AHCI. In my case I have an OEM board so it's no more than changing disk mode from RAID to AHCI. In your bios it may be called VMD or similar rather than RAID. Save changes. It depends on your bios how this is done so consult your motherboard manual.

Boot from your install media and start the install process again. You won't be asked for drivers. Your drive will be detected at step 10 of the clean install procedure and windows will install using the default Microsoft standard NVME express controller drivers. Note: If you have a Samsung drive Samsung Magician will not work using this driver but the drive will.

If you do have a Samsung drive, Once windows is installed you can use Samsungs procedure to convert to the Samsung NVME driver. Then install Samsung Magician.

Other NVME manufacturers may have their own similar software for monitoring their drives. The same principal would apply in that case. Many drives out there do not offer such software at all. You do not say what make/model NVME you have.

Hi @glasskuter
Thank you for the solution, I have disabled VMD in BIOS and it worked, but now I am waiting for the USB ethernet cable because I want to get a connection between my router and my laptop, I have almost completed the installation except the WiFi connection, that's for another day, however, you have resolved my major issue, please let me know how can I make you answer as solved, thanks again for your great help.

Hi there
@brummyfan

Will the laptop boot from an external USB device - preferably any windows 11 install disk.

If it does then you could try re-installing the windows boot loader.

Boot install USB -->chose repair system-->command mode

Diskpart
List disk
list vol (you need the EFI partition and the Windows system -- assign letter S to the efi system and W to the windows disk - the internal one)

then exit diskpart

now bcdboot w:\windows /s S: /f UEFI

Cheers

Hi @jimbo45
thank you for your suggestion but now i am able to boot with USB installation disk and installed Windows 11, I am witing for the USB adapter for Ethernet cable to connect to my laptop which is SFG14-72 because it's not finding my WiFi connection, so once I receive the adapter I can use that to connect my WiFi because the system will download all the drivers, anyway thanks for the suggestion of yours.
