How can I find my Windows credentials password?

I have several laptops on my home wifi network and would like to share files and folders between them. When I go to Windows Credentials in the Credentials Manager in Control Panel, I can see my User Name but the Password under it is dotted out, and the only options are to edit the password or remove the computer completely from the list. There is no option to show the password.
All of the laptops are running Windows 11 Version 23H2 and whatever the latest build is-I'm a stickler for updates. TIA

Did you update all the computers from the same key number?

Network credentials are what you will be asked for if you try to connect to a share on another PC IF you have password protected sharing turned on. You need to give the username and password of an account on that other PC in order to connect. Another option where you will not be asked for credentials is to turn off password protected sharing.

The username you enter is what you see under C:\users on the machine where the files are shared. If you use a MS account this is the first 5 letters of your account name, then use MS account password.
If you use a local account on the machine where the files are shared, use that username and PW instead.

Thanks for trying but nothing seems to work. I have turned off password protected sharing on All Networks, and I was still asked for user name and password, or I was told I didn't have permission and should see my network administrator for that. I thought I was the administrator-that what it says when I log into the computer. Now, the most recent time I tried to access the laptop that is in the same room as my primary desktop computer, the laptop didn't show up on my network.
Sorry, but I'm beginning to think is sharing might not be worth the aggravation.

I was in the same boat as you, wanted to share and could not login from another PC.

A solution is add a local user account of the same name and password on both PC's
When you add one, select don't know person's credentials
skip the email etc... then select add a user without a Microsoft account

it will allow you to create a user name and password under Add account button





Make sure your shared folder has EVERYONE as a user and I told it read and full control.

To view all your shares use 'computer management', then click 'shares', it will show all shares and you can also rename them there

After you do all that. When you go into the PC to look at the remote shares, click on Network, then the remote PC name.
All the shares will appear
Click on a share, it will ask for credentials. Type in user and password and your in.

Reason I did this today, I setup WMC on another PC and wanted to watch recorded shows from the original WMC PC we have had for years.
It all works fine. I have 10 terabytes available for recordings
