If you used netplwiz to automatically sign in to your account at startup, then any changes made to you password or computer name afterwards would cause a failed sign in with a duplicate account showing like that.

If this is the case, then you could just update netplwiz using option one below to fix this.

In that case, go ahead and set up netplwiz again to make sure it's using your correct password to see if that removes the duplicate on the sign-in screen.

I edited out your email address in your screenshot so evil bots can't use it to spam.

I note that your box for 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer' is un-ticked.

This suggests that you have as some time set up an automatic sign in. If the user account password has changed since then you will your see user name twice on the sign in screen at start up, once for the incorrect password and again for the real account. There is only the one account, so Netplwiz will not show two of them. The solution is either to tick the box for 'Users must enter a user name and password....' or to set up automatic sign in again using the correct password.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
Go to Search and type sysdm.cpl Press Enter go to the Advanced tab/User Profiles click Settings. This will list all of the users on the computer. You want to leave the Default Profile, Guest and Administrator alone.
If you user profile is listed twice you can select the User Profile with the smaller size and press the Delete button. Restart the computer and you shouldn't see the other name at login.

I ticked the box where it says 'Users must enter a user name and password....' and it worked. If I recall correctly I unticked it thinking when I boot up it would fly by the Pin/Password thing to get in.

This happens since netplwiz doesn't automatically get updated when you change your account's password or change the computer name. Manually updating netplwiz fixes the issue.

You can try to untick it again and make sure to type in the correct password so you won't get that extra username again. Then it should bypass the password.
