How do I have Win11 File Explorer sort automatically when a new file is added?

Win10 File Explorer automatically sorted the files when a new file was added. How do I have Win11 File Explorer sort automatically when a new file is added?

File Explorer and the previous Windows Explorer tends to put new files at the bottom of the list in a folder. I use 2 methods, one is to click the Name at the top of the column twice, once for Descending order and again for Ascending order and the other is to hit the F5 key to Refresh.

My method is just to click the UP arrow, to go to the folder that holds the folder I added the new file to. Then when I re-open the folder, the files are sorted correctly.

Just hit F5 and it sorts according to how that folder is set to sort.

Unfortunately bhs67, this is a bug that randomly shows for some, every now and again. Something gets broken and the auto refresh state (which I have) stops working for some. Every now and again an influx of questions get posted in this forum (and 7/8/10 forums) about the issue which tells me that perhaps a recent update has triggered it for some people. There have been a few posts in here lately about the same issue.
There are various methods around the internet of trying to correct this. Some work for some people, some people find that none of them work.

Since I started using Windows 11 with 23H2, I have suffered from this problem. I was coming from Windows 7, where when adding a file to a folder, the file was placed in its corresponding order without pressing F5.

I recently used the tutorial to go back to the classic Windows explorer (option three), and now the files are sorted automatically. It seems that the problem with automatic sorting is in tabbed windows.

Over the past year I have tried everything to fix this problem,

I've tried about 50 solutions, including editing the registry. Today is the day I finally found a solution that worked, at least for me. I'm hoping it works for you as well.

1. In a directory, click the three dots (...) in the where Sort an View appear.
2. Select Options at the bottom
3. Click the center View tab
4. Make sure the "Show preview handlers in preview pane" box is checked.


I haven't the slightest idea what this is, and why it works, but it WORKS FOR ME!
