Right clicking the start icon shows Terminal instead of PowerShell so opens the same thing.

Mine opens Command Prompt now. After any changes you make in Settings you have to remember to click the blue 'Save' button at the bottom right.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Beta as native boot vhdx.

Since I started running W11 about 2 months ago, any time I executed a .bat file, it would run in Command Prompt. Today, these all started running in PowerShell. I'm glad I found this thread & the explanation of going into the Settings & changing the default. I've switched it back & my .bat files are once again opening in regular Command Prompt. In my case, before I switched it back, this change of default appears to have been, pick your term, spontaneous, mysterious, magical, accidental, unprovoked, unexpected, surprising, unwanted. Has this happened to anybody else? I might have explained this as being the result of one of those big Tuesday update packages. But the last one of those I got was on January 23, if I can believe what the Windows Update History is telling me. So if it was something in the maintenance, it took from January 23 until February 7 before it took. Which has to be one of the most dubious explanations I'll ever put forward. Can anybody imagine why this setting would change without any action on my part? Is there some hidden thing that I accidentally & unknowingly triggered? If there is such a thing, I want to know about it so I can avoid it.

By the way, February 6 was a Tuesday that I thought would see one of those Cumulative Update things. I didn't get one. Did anybody else? I'm getting the usual virus signature updates every couple of hours but no big update package. So it's not that I haven't been checking. Did we miss one or is it just going to come next week?
