Hi everyone,

I am having major problems with Windows 11.

I set up a pin in the settings app, but when I boot, the pin does not work when I try to log in. When logging in, I get the option to set up a pin, but that does not work. Setting up a fingerprint does not work. The screen just stays blank when it should ask for my fingerprint to set it up.

I can set up a PIN in Windows, but it does not work for Windows Hello. Windows acts as if there is no PIN.

I think there is something wrong with my TPM?

I am on my Lenovo laptop.

Can anyone help?

I am really lost.

Thanks

I take it you went passwordless and don't have a password which will usually get you in when the pin fails? If you you don't have a system backup like Macrium or Hasleo software you can always try a Windows system restore but that's always been sketchy at best.

You may already know this, but...
You typically still have a password even if you choose passwordless sign-in for Windows 11.
Microsoft Accounts: Enabling passwordless features (like Windows Hello or the Authenticator app) does not remove the password from your Microsoft account itself. The password remains a backup recovery method and is still required for specific tasks, such as using older apps, command-line services, or certain web-based enterprise resources.
Have you tried using your password?
Sign In with Password:
Restart your computer or lock it (Windows + L).
1. On the sign-in screen, click the Sign-in options link (usually below the password/PIN field).
2. Select the Password icon (a keyboard symbol).
3. Type your account password and press Enter.
If you are using a Local Account, the password option should appear by default.

You can delete NGC folder to force PIN change from recovery Command Prompt.

Execute following command to delete NGC folder.

Code:
rd /s /q C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC

After deleting the NGC folder reboot normally.

Making the assumption you can still login with a password.

I would start by reviewing logs for Windows Hello
  1. Press winkey + r
  2. Type eventvwr and press ok
  3. Navigate to 'Applications and Services Logs' > Microsoft > Windows > HelloForBusiness > Operational
  4. I would just gloss over this log and look for error events with a Category of Protector I/O, TPM or Pin Change
  5. Report back

I wouldn't count on deleting the NGC folder working. Long story but I made that mistake a couple days ago and my machine refused to allow a new pin or accept my password to gain access afterwards. As a result of several failed followup major command prompts creating an Admin account and other work arounds to try to gain access after deleting that NGC folder I finally threw in the towel and it was my Hasleo Backup to the rescue.
