How do you activate a Win11 Lite version? (X-Lite/Optimum11) I thought it would be automatic with OEM key


Repeating "L" three times is like repeating "Beetlejuice" three times. You better no try it... :wink:. Your computer will be formatted, Windows 98 installed and produce a BSOD precisely every ten minutes. You will be transformed to Tux the penguin 🐧 unable to speak or type.

Yeah i really hate all OS's as no OS is really good... they all have their downsides and they all have their upsides.
So i often say.. use the right tool for the right job.. Some things just runs better on Windows.. Some is better on Mac.. some is better on Linux. :cool:

I use my computers for several things, that is why i have many instead of just one or two.
I work from home, so my work computers is totally isolated and never used for personal usage. Then i have my everyday personal computers... and then i also have computers dedicated for studying/learning or research/testing where i might mess up so i need to wipe the computer.
No i do not program.. i have learned the basics of coding so i can half read C, C++, python, html/scripts.(this only as I'm started to dip my toe in to pentesting, so i need to be able to understand some code functions)...... and also Bash scripting, i use that a lot as I'm lazy and only want to do things once. 😅 @Bree in here can vouch for me being Lazy and hate OS's 😅

That's why virtual machines are for. To experiment. I have one running Windows 7 to test limitations by today standards. I also have one running Ubuntu, one Mac OS 12 Monterey (my 3rd generation Intel Core-i7 doesn't have AVX2 required to run Mac OS 13 or later) and even one running Open Indiana (previously Open Solaris). Worst of all in terms of user friendly and compatibility is Open Indiana, in case you were wondering.

I use VM's too.. But some things just need to be on bare metal to actually test things.
I also use dual/triple/quad boot to use the computers for more then one task thogh.. and also as fast failover if an OS crashes or a bad update, i just boot in to the backup OS and fix the problem later.

oh, fun :-) I have never heard of Open Indiana i have to look that one up. :-) I had Solaris on my first real server around 1996 or 97. But i only used it for a few months when i got me my first Dell server with two SCSI towers. What that one primary was used for cant be spoken about on this forum. :shush: (rule4)

Solaris was the OS of Sun Spark workstations and later had a x86 port. The standard Sun (now Oracle) Solaris is too old and much more limited than Open Indiana. Open Indiana (formerly Open Solaris) is an attempt to expand compatibility and features of the proprietary closed source Oracle Solaris. It claims to be Unix, not Linux.

PS: Give your virtual machine a large disk in advance, because it is not easy to just enlarge it later and expand partition. I learned that the hard way when I was forced to delete the old machine and create a new one. Also after upgrading the original version you might get a black Terminal window. It is a known bug. Just change the text color to white.

Yes it was a Spark that was square and stackable. and it had six scsi disks i think.... I barely remember that one. I do remember that i didn't like it as i was in to windows then.. i got it preinstalled to just plug in and use.
I have no idea at all if Solaris is unix or linux.. I know that they made ZFS great :-)

I use QEMU.. and it is pretty easy to resize those... Just, qemu-img resize
But if you have an evil VM engine, you can also cheat in the same way as you do when you upgrade a physical disk... Create a new VM with two disks. system + an empty and then attach the other VM disk image as third disk and make a disk clone to the big empty disk.. then you have a new bigger one.

I tried to expand the disk. That was the easy part. I then wanted to expand partition to take all the available disk space but it is not that easy. I had to expand or copy the pool, I didn't understand what exactly. And because Solaris geeks think everyone is expert, instructions where not clear and confused me more rather than guide me to do it. So I took the "easy" way, just delete the old out of space virtual machine and create a new with a larger disk in the first place.

There was some incompatibility and Open Indiana wouldn't boot in GUI using VMware, so I switched to VirtualBox.
