Setting your network connections to metered works.

After a [Windows 10] Version update, my metered settings got reset so I check them after Version updates. They have never been reset by anything else.

If I remember well, metered connections still allow security updates to be downloaded and installed.

And then, there are those of us, who just hate MS updates, for the years of bugs they have inserted into our PC's.
And the total crashes caused by those bugs.

And I do like a program with a colorful and interesting GUI.
So I tried, and really like "Stopupdates10.exe" that I first heard about on the Win-10 forum. I think!
stopupdates10.en.softonic.com

StopUpdates10

A free utility to manage Windows OS updates
stopupdates10.en.softonic.com stopupdates10.en.softonic.com

It does give the option of turning MS Updates back ON, if you so wish. I just don't!
And, it works great on Windows 11/Pro/64, which is the only version I use.

Happy Father's Day

Did you try Sledgehammer?

Download Sledgehammer 2.7.2 - MajorGeeks

Sledgehammer (formerly WUMT Wrapper Script) is used to launch Windows Update MiniTool and disable Windows Updates until you run it again avoiding unwanted reboots.

So does "StopUpdates10Setup.exe"
Available at StopUpdates10 - Download

I use it, after every install of Win-10 or Win-11.

Run it to Hard Block all MS Updates, and run it again to UN-Block updates if you ever want to.

Cheers mates!

You can use the attached batch script to disable Windows 10 and Windows 11 updates.

I tested this batch file on 21H2 and 22H2 builds that I wanted to freeze for testing purposes. Unfortunately, after restarting, the CPU was pegged and the culprit was Windows Update, so this batch file did not work for me. YMMV.

Not to mention the script removes C:\AMD, C:\Intel, C:\NVIDIA folders without asking you first. I don't see how those are related to WU.

I know this is old but this is also useful.

Code:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings
right click dword flightSettingsMaxPauseDays
set 00001c84

On newer versions of Windows
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings
PauseFeatureUpdatesEndTime
PauseQualityUpdatesEndTime
PauseUpdatesExpiryTime

Set these dates to a far out time in the future
I used this.

We've used Carifred's WAU Manager for many years with no issues.

Simple to use, and no manual user intervention to the registry (or Group Policy if you're on Windows 11 Pro) required.

Mentioned on page 1 as well.
