LOL. My Windows 10 file server will keep running 'til it drops. My Windows 8 laptop I haven't powered on in a few years will likely power on just like my Atari 400 from 1981. Oh, you're quoting an article from "Forbes". That explains the laughability.

The kicker is they do not have to end up in a landfill intact. They end up there because most folks are too lazy to find an alternative.
We all know we can run a Linux distro on them probably until they turn to dust.. But did you know PC cases and power supplies are recyclable. I've carried many to the metal salvage yard after I stripped the mobo/drive parts out. Maybe this doesn't keep the innards from ending up in a landfill, but it surely helps.

If you're a crafter old cases can be used for a number of crafts. You can find craft uses on the web. Take an old picture frame, ram sticks, diodes, and wireless adapters along with some super glue makes a neat hi-tech looking picture frame. Also, my husband uses cases in his shop to hold hand tools, boxes of nails, screws, & washers, etc.

So yeah. One does not have to throw an entire PC away. Sadly, it's the nature of the way we live today that we do.

If I assume that laptops average 2cm thick (made-up number), then 240 million of them would stack to 4800km. The equatorial diameter of the Moon is 3476km, according to Wikipedia.

But those laptops won't die in October.

Windows 7 is reported to still have 2.2% of the Windows market. (7 went EOL in January of 2020.) Whether those machines are still online wasn't mentioned.

I’ve always figured this was the truth. I wish both the hardware mfgs and MS would leave all us internet surfers alone, and just charge the gamers more for gaming hardware. I mean if you can afford to spend $4000.00 on a video card, heck, a couple hundred more for your hardware would just be pocket change.

I admit I've never understood this hullabaloo. Windows 11 requires, basically, an 8th-gen CPU or better, so 2017-ish. The TPM 2 requirement was in place for OEMs the year before that, in the early days of Windows 10. If you built or bought a computer "a couple of years ago" and it doesn't support Windows 11, as some people claim, then you built or bought something out of spec. If you built it, that's your fault.

And no one's saying you have to buy a new computer. Your Windows 10 device will not shut down on November's patch Tuesday; it just won't get any updates, barring some emergency patch like Microsoft has done a couple of times for out of support Windows. Or you can ESU for $30 or less.

lol ay? Yes. It’s called customary units. An inch is 2.54cm and 2.54cm is an inch regardless of the metric or imperial metrication, which isn’t really an issue in Australia, we’ll follow any rule. we don’t give a stuff, especially due to the fact we started out imperial (like most of the world).

I expect a new workaround the hardware requirements will be found. My 11 year old 'incompatible' Dell laptop still works fine in Windows 11.

You can measure page area in rods, poles or perches if you like and lengths in chains -- the aussies are supposed to be good at cricket --isn't the official length of the actual pitch between bowler and the batting crease meant to be 1 chain.

Office only sets default measurements up according to the govts official policy on weights and measures and the locale used when installing Windows. By the way how many perches are in an A3 area of paper. !!

Be gentle with us, Australia only switched to the metric system during a phased transition from the 1970s, with the phasing process only really ending around 1988. They even announced the Metric Conversion Act. So it be written, so it be done. We were still using imperial when I was a kid.

We have hardware stores here, you can buy measuring tapes at them.

The length of the pitch between the bowling crease (where the bowler delivers the ball) and the batting crease (marked in front of the wickets) is 58 feet (17.68 meters). The bowling crease itself is 8 feet 8 inches (2.64 meters) long according to Line Marker Paint. The popping crease (batting crease) is marked 4 feet (1.22 meters) in front of the bowling crease. Therefore, the total distance from the bowling crease to the popping crease on the opposite end is 66 feet (20.12 meters), which is the standard length of the cricket pitch
