Really hate the bonk, bonk, bonk sound Windows 11 Pro makes after displaying the logon screen after every reboot. I would like to change to the old Vista sound and have the .wav file for it. I edited the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER/AppEvents/EventLabels/WindowsLogon to 0 to display the option in Sounds. There I selected Windows Logon and put vista.wav in the selection box and hit OK. I tested the sound and it's what I want. Exited Sounds and rebooted only to have the bonk, bonk, bonk play again.

What am I missing?

Hello, :alien:

It sounds like you need to turn off the Windows Startup sound below so only the logon sound will play.

You may need to use an option below to have the logon sound play though.

I guess what I want is to change the sound when the lock screen appears too. Any idea how to change that? I've disabled the 'play sound at startup' in Sounds, so there's no sound at the initial lock screen but the correct sound upon going to the desktop.

Tried to use Resource Hacker after taking ownership of the file. The file is 12KB. Resource Hacker only shows 2 folders per the attached image. If I'm owner shouldn't there be more folders/files shown?

OK, having problems with Resource Hacker. Open the imageres.dll.mun file OK and see the WAVE folder. Do the replace with the new wave, play the wave file and it's the one I want, and save to the desktop. Run Resource Hacker and open the desktop file and only 2 folders, MUI and Version appear, so nothing has been saved from the edit. I have ownership of those files also. Any idea what's happening here now?
